Bottlenecking?

I might upgrade my 8600GT to an 8800GTS 320mb. Would the 8800 bottleneck my system? Specs are in my sig.

It would a little bit. But it's like ~5-10 FPS which won't matter cuz you've got a 8800GTS!! :yay:

But I wouldn't recommend a 8800GTS for a 19 inch moniter though. It's overkill. You can max out the settings with a X1950Pro and get decent FPS. Unless you're planning to get a larger monitor, I recommend a X1950Pro.

Well, I've got a 52" CRT and a 42" LCD TV that I'd like to play on. Also, is the X1950Pro DX10?

My 8600GT can max settings and resolution (1280x1024) on newer games (bioshock, lost planet, quake wars) but I'd also like to play crysis with maxed out graphic settings.

Oh, I thought you meant the 8600. What can play crysis maxed out, then? the 8800 ultra?

you aren't going to bottleneck your gpu with a giant ash monitor like that.

8600 series is/was/always will be pretty much low-mid-end; 8800gts is a great card for gaming. if you can wait a couple of months, prices on highish end dx10 parts should drop b/c ati has tweaked their new card (R670) and nVidia will be releasing their g92 once they get the thermals under control.

were i you, i'd wait a bit and stick with the 8600whatever for a while.

i'm not you, though, and an 8800gts would make your games fly now.

I guess I'll wait. So far, I've been able to play every game I've wanted to on all high settings. Until I'm unhappy with my current card (could be when crysis comes out) then I'll think about upgrading. The cheapest 8800GTS I saw was for $300.

8800GTS 640mb
or
8800GTX 768 ????

is there really a difference? cause i am still in the processe of ordering my rig but i am stuck at the GTX or GTS BTW its a 26" i'll be playing on but i will not max the res i will go with the normal 1024 by 768. sry for thread jacking btw.

From what I have understood from people on these forums: if you're playing at high resolutions, get the GTX. If not, the GTS will suffice.

But why are you running 1024 x 768 on a 26" screen?

well thats waht i usually play on on my 19inch widescreen wat do u recommend the GTS or GTX and what res should i play at on a 26inch?

Dont expect to play Crysis with high settings and soft shadows with anything less than a 8800gts if you have a 19" monitor any higher resolutions than 1280x1024 and youll need a GTX/ultra

that helps thnx i think i will get the GTS for NOW then upgrade to a new GFX by Nvidia like the 8900 or some new series that there making God knows what.
