Mein hard drive is nicht snell

Well, i installed Vista Business, and it's all very cool, bar the following problem:

Vista is installed on two drives in RAID 0, and they run fine. However, i have a second 400gb SATA disk for storing media etc...

When i try and access data on it (e.g. Music through WMP, files etc...), i can actually hear it spin up (starts with a low sounds and gradually increases pitch). The drive takes about 4-5 secs to spin up, and then when it reaches the highest pitch noise, it springs into life and is fine!

Any idea what is going on here?

I have been watching the HD acitvity light for the last 5 mins and have noticed that it is constantly flickering, indicating some kind of activity!

no, it starts off at a low pitch and when it reaches a high pitch, it starts working. It didn't do this 2 hours ago under XP. It's like its spinning up or something!

It's turning on. Change the power options, it really is spinning up.

Dan just showed me how to prevent it from switching off the disks and how to stop "indexing", because apparently that is a real pain in the posterior.

Superfetch also rapes HDDs. If it's disabled, you get XP's prefetcher.

Both. It makes BF2 stutter if you're not careful.

Yea, like others have said, it's a power issue. The HDD has to get enough power to spin up to speed. When it does get enough power, it takes a while to get up to speed.

Something isn't right here. I tried to copy a load of data from my 400gb disk to the 320gb disk which Windows is installed on. The data only amounts to 5gb or something, but it's saying it's going to take 10 hours to transfer, and is working at a super slow speed.

                    What's going on???

I'm pretty sure theres a known issue with vista where it takes forever to transfer files. I read that there is some patch or something coming out, or the fix will be in sp1.

Run Windows Update and get the leaked SP1 off http://thehotfixshare.net/board/inde...&showfile=3435.

If it still does it, DMA is turned off and your HDD is running in PIO mode meaning either a corrupted/damaged atapi.sys driver or you just need to reset it in hard disk options in device manager. You'll know it's running in PIO mode if your CPU usage spikes when copying files.
