      19" widescreen...native res is 1440 x 900

as for the hd and cd rom....I will need new ones...I am currently on a dell...and giving this one to my dad.

as for the hd...size doesnt matter too much, but atleast 160...and DVD burner would be great.

2x120mm fans/vent/cpu exhaust should be plenty for a mid-end setup; money saved could be put towards an 8800gts...but then OP would need Vista, too...more money...and lots (and lots) of patience...

second thought: get the cheaper case, and use the left over money to buy games from companies that haven't totally sold out *cough, cough* to the Beast of Redmond.

I think I am going to wait a bit longer and save up some more money.

By this I mean like, Christmas / February...

then i would have like 1000+ and a very capable rig :)

maybe some of the items will also have price drops.

keep an eye out on www.xpbargains.com between now and (especially) then.

lots of holiday specials show up on there--i picked up my my case (p180) at best(worst)buy, online, free shipping for $65 when it was still $130 + shipping at the 'egg.

same (sorta) deal with my gpu--normally $215; $170 when I got it after rebates.

you can build a really, really good rig for $1000, but you have to be a little patient and have to do a little homework.

sempy's were very, VERY good processors.

                              great use of energy/cycles/performance.

                              1 gig isn't bad, either.

6200 is the only thing holding you back from a good (not ooooooober-great, but GOOD) gaming experience.

may want to think about plugging in a new gpu. 7600gt's are fairly psu indiscriminate, and will deliver med/high range settings in bf2.

up to you. offer advice anytime: post budget, specs, and expectations. :)
