8800 GTX temp?

Hi guys

My GTX temp seems to idle at about 80 and while in game it will climb to 86/87c.

my question(s):Is this card over heating?
Is this a normal temp range for the 8 series?

One side of the case is plexy glass and i was thinking of modding another fan or two in it,but i will wait for replies on the temp range for this card.
(i know cooler is better) im useing NV temp logger to view the temp.

evga 680i
dual core 6300 @ 1.86 GHz
2 gigs DDR2
XP pro.

Yeah that is a bit hot. Of course they do run at very high temps anyway but I would definitely recommend some more airflow.

Its kinda got me worried a bit.

I have never modded a case at all but im guessing ill start with a out line of the cut out/drill a pilot hole and use jig saw?

Hmmm, it is hot, but nothing that will damage the card. I seem to recollect that slowdown thresholds are at like 100c.

And, i would simply clean any dust or if you are adamant its the case, buy a new one, don't mod them unless you know what you are doing. Believe it or not, it's actually possible to make cooling worse by making holes here, there and everywhere!

Ambient temps are 80? Thats a little high but not really bad.. kinda sounds like something else is feeding the higher temp. Mine runs around 69-70c and about 10c more in game which isn't hot by no means. Try a few different video drivers as some just do better for temp controls than others. But I think you need to look at air flow inside your case.. use the push - pull method from front to rear and avoid cluster of wires that stop air flow.

As far as dust goes i buy 2 cans of air every 2/3 weeks and blow it out.
(anal YEAH i know:shock:)

A bud of mine has the same case and he has side panels layin around
(the guy tinkers all the time ) the one he droped off for me has 2 fans in it already so i swaped sides and will see if it helps with 2 fans.

One fan is near the top and the other one basicly is blowin rite on the vid card.

the case has 2 more fans as well One on the back,and one on the top suckin heat out.

p.s The pc has been on now for an hour after sitting turned off for an hour as well,it has not went over 64 when it normaly would be at 80 just surfing the net,have not gamed on it yet with the extra fan.

FFS one more question guys? Who knows of a temp monitor that will let me watch it while im in game instead of always alt tabing? ok im done now.

I heard they are could up to 80 and above that you should prolly be looking into better cooling solutions but its not that life threatening.

Ps. This is using the same temp monitor as you are.

And I think if you go into the nvidia monitor settings and look around a bit, you an find an option to record the temps (I've seen it but never bothered to use it).

Are you using the antec 900 by any chance? It sounds like you are when you describe it...

thats about where I am with my BFG 8800GTX-OC2E. right now I'm idling at 61 after a couple hours of bf2. speed 626/2000 stock.

My GTS idles at 49c and loads at 68c. Compared to everyone else that seems awesome.

Apparently, looking at Nvidia monitor, my card has been overclocked.... without me doing anything...

It says on the box and specs 500mhz core, whereas Nvidia Monitor is reporting it as 513mhz. The memory has also changed.

Sorry to hijack, but does anyone know if its possible to overclock the steam processors yet?

ive got a question, when i get my new pc its gonna have a 8800 GTX, the cooling system is a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler, will that be good enough to keep it cool

Its just for your cpu, wont make a difference to the temperature of your graphics card (i think thats what you mean)

the 8800gtx comes with a pretty decent stock heatsink and fan which blows the air out the back of the computer. I wouldn't consider replacing it unless you are wanting to water cool.

I heard the Zalman after market coolers are meant to be better actually. Annoying this is that you have to buy a seperate memory/Mosfet cooler with it which makes quite expensive in the long run.
