will BF2 run on this computer

I have a 6 year old computer that is below requirements so am looking at a new computer. It is a Gateway with quad core 6600 @ 2.4, 3gig ram, geforce 8500gt. It runs with directx 10, will BF2 be able to run on this system? Thanks.

Barely. The quad core CPU is good, but your biggest problem is you graphics card. A 8500GT will barely play the game on a 19in monitor. And nobody wants the settings on low.

Before I recommend a better video card, I have to know what size is your monitor that you will use?

Open the computer and look on the (most likely) gray box with all the wires coming out and see what size PSU (power supply) it is. If it has the rails listed under the volts column, tell us how many amperes (A) are under the 12V (volt) rail. if you've got at least a 450W psu, then you've got a lot of solid mid-range options for a better video card.

with a better gpu, that'll be a screaming setup for mid-high detail gaming and especially for complex workstation/programming/video editing/encoding tasks.

edit: a quad-core gateway is going to be mega-expensive. have you thought about building one?

oh, and if you're just using it for gaming, and not compiling code, video editing, or giant database extractions (or doing some serious f@h), the quad-core is mondo overkill. so far, the only game that will really use the benefit of four cores is Supreme Commander.
