hm the only thing I can think of is to do a full manual uninstall of the game before trying to re-install it. try the steps from this link:

also when you go to re-install it on vista, try running the installer 'as administrator' on the cd.

hold down the 'windows key' and press 'R'. That will bring up the 'run' box. then type in REGEDIT

NOTE: be very careful editing your registry. most guides will tell you to back it up before editing it. If you screw it up, you could end up having to re-install windows.

After doing the registry edit, reboot then use windows explorer (windows key + E) to browse to your bf2 cd. find the BF2 'setup.exe', right click on it and choose 'run as administrator'.

hit 'windows key + E' then up at the top you should see the headers 'file / edit / view / tools / ...' click on the 'tools' one, then you should see folder options. click on that. you'll see a bunch of options to change, one of them is to show hidden folders.

windows explorer is not responding, is it the same if i go through my C drive/program files and all that stuff?
Question: i should install before i click, run as administrator right?
Edit: When i run as admin, the screen goes black and straight to the desktop
Another edit: i tryed installing again and it freezes at the same spot.

yes windows explorer should be the same as when you browse through c:/program files/ etc...

well I'm not sure.. the point I was trying to make was to try running the bf2 setup 'as administrator'.

edit: well damn i forgot for a moment we were working with vista. I'm not sure how to enable 'view hidden' in vista. those directions are mostly written for xp. :|:

when you get to installing again, remember though that bf2 will appear to freeze for a long time when installing. just let it sit there when it looks like its frozen. it could take as along as 15 minutes or so to continue installing.

                  Re: BF2 freezes on Install

its ok i got the C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information.
I typed it in the address bar. MY problem now is still as before, it wont load past Levels/Dragon_Valley/

Edit: I waited this time, now it says failed to install, try from beginning. Could it be my CD? Its quite scratched
Edit: Used a cleaning method: Rub toothpaste on the cd and then pour alchohal over the paste, listerine works too, then wash off, i then used a CD scratch cleaner and it worked, thanks for all the help dude, it was just my CD but i might be back if i still have the crashing to desktop problem
