Downgrade from Vista - Windows2000? u kidding me? hahah. what im trying to say about pbsetup is, there are two ports that run...PunkbusterA shows up in the port but, punbusterB doesn't....where is punkbusterB in the port? Or, how can i add pbsetupB into a port? Im going to download pbsetup 1 more time....there was never ANY good results with that program to be honest.
Just read the title of the threads through Tech Center

Re: Crashing/Lagging
thanks for the help but, i had to mess with vista a bit. I got the kicks off and only get lagg for 10 mins of the beginning of the game which, I do understand because, computers need a little time to connect & network.
back to the original way of when i first started playing.Comment

Re: Crashing/Lagging
I don't understand this....this is very very wierd. I downloaded punkbuster set up again and when i play, 8 mins b4 the round is over, I get constant lag during and b4 the game is over. I also tend to get the longest lags ever when these happen. Should i get more RAM even though i'm at 890MB Ram? Does this have to do with the speed of my internet connections????
helps appreciated.
thanksComment

a) Kill off as many background processes as possible (on XP, I have 18, including powestrip, nod32, fraps, daemon tools, etc)
b) Kill off as many services as possible (start => run => services.msc). Don't kill off critical services like firewalls and antivirus and system services (these are grayed out but some can be disabled). If you can handle the windows classic theme, then switch to it. The goal of steps a and b is to get the most efficiency out of your PC.
c) In the BF2 console, write "pb_sleep 500" then "pb_writecfg". Well documented tweak.
That should help. Also, if you can, try restricting BF2 to earlier pixel shader versions (see ConscriptVirus' guide for those on FX cards).Comment

Re: Crashing/Lagging
For the services, try a guide like http://www.speedyvista.com/services.html. You should set the ones you "disable" to Manual, don't disable them unless they pose a security risk (things like Remote Registry). All the services are hosted under svchost.exe, so using Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) to kill it usually ends up in your PC rebooting in 60 seconds.
You need ONE anti-virus program at a time, 3 programs at once is ridiculous.
How many running background processes do you have?Comment
