Random Crashing

During gameplay, my system will randomly hang -- rarely does it hang in the same place or after the same amount of game play. I have a 850XT PE over clocked a little bit, and have pushed back the clocks with no prevail.

System Specs

XP Pro SP2 up-to-date
2 gig ram
P4 3.2 @ 3.52ghz
Creative X-fi external box
ATI 8.401.0.0 drivers barebone with ATITool

I'm not pushing things regarding detail or resolution and this problem just started a month back -- randomly.

Is there something I should know about? Any help is greatly appreciated!

possibly monitor temps and/or clean out your case.

blown capacitors....outside chance i'm currently having to deal with with the computers i run in my department.

is your pc off the shelf, or did you build it?

mobo model? psu details?

I get it too...

Personally I think its my creative sound card that is cuasing this crap and I see you too have one.

Reason to believe this is because...

a) I heard creative sound cards cause headaches

b) loading a game and having musik playing in backround causes a lot of "skretch" noises. One time I didn't even have any musik and my speakers were going nuts with random sounds. My car did that the other day too when I put on defrost come to think about it... Scared the fuking shlt out me, sounded like someone screaming. Did it twice to... ERErrrrrrr ummm, off topic.

I recently discovered if I run my x-fi in ultra high the game is noticeably choppy. I found out by setting the sound on high. Whats an x-fi external box?

Thanks for the response guys. Here are some more specifics:

Asus P4P800 SE board with 1010 bios
Enermax 550
Creative X-fi pro / extreme, the one with the big external box with hook ups, inputs, outputs, etc.

I originally purchased this from alienware -- however that was a few years back and I doubt any of the original alienware installed parts are in there. I have been piecing it together for quite a while now. The monitors, are only a year old, not even that.

System, I have actually noticed those same screetches that you describe every time I am connecting to a server. I will try not running in ultra mode but really get confused why the game pauses like this. I'm not wanting to reformat as I finally have my system set up the way I desire!

Hmmm...

You know you could also try checking what your mobo has for audio then delete the creative drivers and use your mobo.

Yeah you won't have the high end stuff with mobo audio drivers but its worth a shot to single out where the source of the problem is coming from.

Heck, if that works for you maybe I'll try out my HD realtek audio on my mobo too.

have to think about ur particular parameters, minus ethanols.

this should be solvable. almost...certain...as i am the popping/crackling of my ownetups. we'll fix it don't give up. !!!!!!!!\\

I get those too, ever since I shifted from Realtek HD Audio.

The best thing you can do is live with it, or underclock your CPU.
