Trouble installing GFX card

I've just bought a graphics card that i'm pretty sure is compatible with my motherboard because I checked that they are both AGP but i'm having troubles with it.

When I put my new card in and then turn on the computer the name of my card and then the BIOS show. Then as it begins to load windows xp nothing appears and I just get a very faint version of the xp black screen until I take the card out and then put my moniter cable in to the original slot.

Why is this happening?

Incase you need to know the comp/card details are:


512mb DDR Ram (needs upgrading i know)
PNY nVidia Geforce 7600 GS AGP

So far i've tried entering the BIOS to disable the card.
Comes up with something similair to this:

No chipset configuration that i've been told I need.

Tried a few things and still the windows loading screen comes up very faint.
I'm referring to this one:

That is how it should be but for me is it very faint and the blue bar that usually runs along the bottom is unseen and it just stays on that the whole time.

The card did not come with a CD when I bought it from someone on ebay.

Could it be a power supply problem or maybe the graphics card is faulty?

Sounds like a power supply problem, or a monitor issue.

Does your card come with an extra power connector (look on the PCB itself) ?

Did you remember to connect the card to the power supply?

Does your card come with an extra power connector (look on the PCB itself) ?

I don't think it's anything to do with the moniter because it work's fine when I take the card out and connect moniter to the onboard card.

As for the power supply, no it didn't come with an extra power connecter but that might be because I got it 2nd hand off ebay?

I will look for a power connecter to put in the card now, hopefully this should make it work. Could I possibly use one that I no longer need for my front USB ports? (They got damaged so make the computer short circuit if connected)

You don't need an extra connector, any free molex connector from the power supply will do.

Find a loose power wire. The same that is connected to a hard drive, or cd rom drive. Plug one of those into the same plug that is on the graphics card, if it has one.

It is also important to disable the onboard video in the bios settings and change the setting to the agp card.
