    laptops prices downnnn

    YAYAYAYA!

I remember about a month ago with all the discounts on dell.ca a decent laptop like the one below cost 1600-1800 after taxes.

OMFG its great! from first glance the only negative part is the warranty and possibily the HD not being upgraded toa 7200rpm but big deal! Actually come to think about it, it doesn't list the speed but I can't see it being lower than 5400rpm SATA... Only $1200! By the looks of it I can ask for it in XP if I want to too... Umm bonus? Hmmm, I'd prolly go VISTA though anyways.

What originally caught my eye was the price drop on a $1800 lappy down to $1610 for two days. The link will display 1750 but on the home front page its got a 150 price cut tag displaying $1610 instead. Comparing it to the asus I only see a warranty difference and bluetooth capability which I am not looking for...

So anyways the point of the thread really is if its worth buying the 1200 lappy you thinkerz or should I wait for a better video card to come out in mobile form?

Thats so funny because those were the over priced lappys i was referring to last month...

EDIT. Are you yank or something because I just looked at the dell 1520 or 1521 w/e it is with the conroe in it and its the same high price as before with a T7300 + G8600 256mb + 2GB ram + 120Gb 7200RPM HD in it...

should play bf2 decent enough. recent games, too, on low-mediumish settings.

lot of money for a secondary (and that's what laptops are for the most part) computer.

question that only u can answer: do you need oober 3d on a lappy?

if not, a $200-$300 ebay "special" + $50 battery would save you $1000, until you can get back home/dorm/apt and log onto a MUCH cheaper desktop for you e-bullet fix.

edit: not passing judgment or anything. i use my dual-boot ($220 + $50 battery p4 2.0 n610c) lappy to tinker around with ubuntu, for presentations, and to play civ3 when i'm working late for my degree.) :)

laptops are nice, but 3d-gaming ones are a waste of money in my opinion.

Looking on ebay it seems that there are some good ones on there but the video cards are usually a fall back... Like I saw a really nice lappy but it had a 8400 in it instead.

Some have a 7600 go running xp, is that the same performance as an 8600 minus dx10 capability?

I saw one with a 7950 512mb in it... That is the faster card you can get in your lappy is it not?

            from what I gather, a 8600 is like a 7600 but plays DX10.
