I have found using this option makes the game look a million times better. I have a large flat panel monitor, so its common that its refresh rate is low. (60 Hz) When fps is at 102 the screen looks like crap. Smooth but a little off. Turn it on, and its beautiful. I was just wondering how many of you use it, and does using it lower performance. I understand it caps my frame rates, but will the actual amount of power consumed by capping the frame rates work my video card for no reason causing frame rates to go lower than with the V-sync off?

Re: Vertical Sync
instead of turning it off, put it on Application controlled in the nvidia control panel. Thats what I do.Comment

Re: Vertical Sync
i leave it off. this option is for ppl who get 100fps constant and im not one of them
but...wouldnt u say that game.lockfps 60 do the same thing if ur monitor is at 60hz.Comment

Re: Vertical Sync
no, it has something to do with your refresh rate, it makes it smoother. Like you know how you turn off V-sync in CSS? it gets all jaggedy? hard to explain lol....Comment

Re: Vertical Sync
well I was up til 2 reading all about it lol. I'm now a vertical sync guru. If you get 100 fps or higher all the time, like me, your probably 40 frames over what the monitor can even accept. Meaning your seeing half frames chopped with other frames, you mgiht not be able to notice, but I can and it sucks.
Its like your damned if you do damned if you don't. Your damned if you have low fps, your damned if you have high fps. You can turn on V-sync and cap the fps to the max of monitor, trust me it looks beautiful if you have a 60hz monitor like I do. (most very nice LCD monitors are either 60-75, you won't find em any higher) Unfortunatly you can see performance loss using V-sync, it will often half your fps because theres only 2 frames in the graphics card ready to come out. So if you chop your fps in half your losing an imagine... or something along those lines.
So they have a feature called TRIPLE BUFFERING in your display driver settings. This is the fix for the missing image, cuz now you have 3. UNFORTUNATLY, Nvidia for what ever reason has made the drivers so that triple buffering only supports OpenGL, and we all know BF2 is DirectX9(Direct3D). But, theres a fix for this. You can download Rivatuner and theres a program that uses no resources, that will enable the triple buffering on Direct3D games. It runs very good on my system. Max frame:63 fps, min frame:56 fps. Its pretty nice. But I also wanna try to just cap the fps in game at 60.Comment

Re: Vertical Sync
It's useless unless you're on an LCD.
As for forcing triple buffering, Rivatuner has that functionality now, it's called D3DOverride or something.
Capping in-game FPS will work as well. Artificially capping FPS makes BF2 slightly choppier, in my experience.Comment

Re: Vertical Sync
Yeah, the D3Doveride made it awesome. FPS just holds at 60 no matter what happens.
If capping at 60 makes it choppy then I won't bother trying that.
And, a lot of us aren't on CRTs anymore. And I haven't checked out the Rear Projection Tele in the living room. lolComment
