    Router problem PLEASE help guys!

Okay. I have three computers: two desky one lappy [mine].

I have one router [der] a Lynksis BESFR41 with 4-port switch [thats what it says lol.]

I never had trouble till last week.

When you turn my two desky's off, their corresponding lights shut off as well and the internet is NOT used while theya re off [obviously]. Well...

I have them off now with just my lappy, yet all FOUR lights are on and the internet IS being used even though theya re off! I know this because of BF 2 ping: 200+ when they are all lit up even though they are off. Everynow and then they will go off and my ping turns to 30-40 which is normal.

What the f|_|ck is going on? I reset the router and all that and it still seems SOMETHING is sapping my bandwidth when THREE computer and FOUR lights are on!

I switched my DSL cable to the first port, and the light did NOT light up, yet I have internet..?

My thought is faulty router, buy a new one [any suggestions for a reasonable pirce?]. If you can figure this out please help! :salute:

Have you secured the wireless connection so that you're not sharing it with the neighbors or anyone else in the area?

try getting the latest firmware from linksys.

The DSL line goes into the WAN port.

ok go to linksys.com, try getting a new firmware. But it does sound as thought your router has taken a crap. Its recomended you unplug it, not reset it, for 2 minutes. That usually takes care of home networknig device problems.

and that is an old router by the way. I have the same one on the floor that hasn't been used for 3 years.

if all the above doesn't work and your up to your last choice to try..there is a little reset button on the back push it in with a pen (hold 10seconds) and try again.

I dunno what to look for lol. And my lappy isn't the one connected to the router, like the main computer. Does that make sense lol?

If you've reset the router then all connections will be the same with the same permissions as default.

OK first. Go to linksys.com. Download the right firmware for your model, I believe you said the BFSR41? Then go to Start>Run>type CMD "click run">type ipconfig "ENTER">write down default gateway>open internet explorer>type in this ip address you collected>type in the username and password, usually admin and password>find the place where you upgrade the firmware and upload the file.

Edit: I don't know the username. It's not Admin or admin and who's username do I need??
