e6750 @ 3.4 + ??? how? please tell me

i cant get my e6750 over 3.3 ghz. can anyone tell me how i can manage 3.4 or higher? if i go to 3.4 i get no post even at increased voltages. ive seen ppl say there at 3.5 - 6 but i cant even get to 3.4. can anyone help me get to 3.4 + ?

cooling (HSF) + mobo/volts + disinterest in longevity of processor = acceptable oc.

Maybe you have a bad one but then again you don't really need that much speed... Just stock speeds alone is plenty...

bytheway you have a type in your specs, E5750...

But umm, as for helping you solve this problem try looking in the cpu options, I'm not sure what it is called off the top my head but you need speed step and thermal control turned off as they will cut your OC down by reducing the X. FSB needs to be at least 1.4 volts, mine was @ 1.4 with 1511 FSB when I had my E6600 OC'd on auto. As for the cpu voltage I don't really know. Auto settings took care of it but I'm back down to stock..

Though half of that paragraph is useless to you, its the only thing I could think of. By the way, what heat sink and fan are you using? The stock one sucks. You'd want an artic freezer pro 7 or something like that (the one in my sig for example) but it is the best dollar to performance ratio. Don't forget your thermal paste!

I'm talking about your cooling because I'm guessing your cpu maybe heating up and executing the halt state.

What VCore you trying to run it at?

Also, as you have raised your FSB, it's likely that the memory has been overclocked. Some motherboards enable you to overclock the memory and FSB separately. However, if this is not the case, either drop the memory to the lowest speed and overclock the CPU. Once you have your CPU at the right level, then slowly raise the memory (remember to loosen the timings if your overclocking it)

All hardware is different..yours may not go that high.. its all about stability but why even push that thing that far? Its not really needed as it performs great against everything out there now.

I'd just set it to the highest you can get it running stable and leave it before you burn it up or do something else to it you will regret. A good OCer knows their limits. :salute:

Take it to the highest stable, simple as that. Your system is not their system, and other people's computers are in all sorts of different conditions.

not every proc is capable of every overclock. I've seen an old 2.4c intel hit just under 5ghz (ln2 cooled.) That same proc would do about 3.1-3.2 air cooled. I had a 2.4 from the same batch run that was instable @ 3.0 with a massive water cooling setup.

If the proc won't go there, I wouldn't suggest pushing the voltage any higher in the effort to force it. Possibly look at getting a different mobo if you absolutely have to, but you need to realize, the higher it is OC'd at an above spec voltage, the greater the signal degredation and the likelihood of errors/instability occuring, as well as diminishing returns on performance.

strange fact...

I had my E6600 at 3.0ghz for a while.

Clocked it back to its stock 2.4GHz, barely notice any difference in BF2 whatsoever. Windows on the other hand, runs amazingly better. Windows loads in and is ready to use way faster than when its overclocked. I don't get it. I was thinknig maybe my pci bus was overclocked because i have no control over it, but that doesn't explain why windows was loading in slower.


I'm thinking the cache wasn't being used properly. Actually that makes sense. Because once the game runs it is a little faster overclocked, but getting there is slower.
