Video card help

I have a geforce 6800, and it ran pretty good for the first year and a half but after the newest patch it just runs a little crappy, most of the settings are on high, so i got 2gb or Ram and it helped but i want to run it on high, and plus I can't even play MOH:A on my rig, and im wondering if Brothers in arms hells highway will run on it. Im thinking about getting a 7 series Gforce so maybe a 7600, or maybe a 7900. Im not sure what the GT and GTX means so if someone could shed some light on that. What card would be best without bottlenecking my computer and making things worse.

Specs:AMD Athlon 64+ Processor 3000+ 2.00GHz 2.00RAM

I got like 2-300 bucks to spend.

just wondering, have u unlocked hte pipelines to make ur 6800 into a 6800GT. ive never done it b4, but ive heard of other ppl doing it so idk if its completely safe.

ahhhhiii dont wanna try that, my friend says its not safe. Anyone know how to check if my motherboard or CPU or whatever is PCI or PCI Express.?
It says this in mycomputer/manage. PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0

for 2-300 bucks you can buy an 8800 gts. When you wanna get a new comp, you can just transfer it in. BTW, i recently bought the XFX 8600 gt for 100 bucks and, along with my quad core, plays everything bf2 on high (8x AA is beautiful).

8600 gt = 7600-7950 but DX10 capable.

Once you up the resolution the 8600 is suppose to show its true colours, garbage. But then again I'm just repeating what I've read and can't say from experience. 8800 gts is prolly your ideal choice.

oh yeah, GTS, GTX, ULTRA are just terms like level 1, 2 and 3.

example of the 8800's:

8800 ULTRA 768 MB
8800 GTX 768 MB
8800 GTS 640 MB
8800 GTS 320 MB

There is a clear distinction in the 8800s that you can see... Also note that stuff like OC or XXX or black peral or SC (there are so many different terms from each manufacturer) that may be added onto the name which simply indicates that the stock clocks from the shop have already been bumped up to run faster and hopefully with a better a heat sink and fan.

EDIT. I also forgot to mention that as more video memory is added, the speed of the gpu is also upped. Example is I think you can pick up a standard GTS 640MB card @ 1600 mhz vs a gtx @ 1800 mhz and so on so on.

you could just look on the board itself usually there is some indication as to the maker/model.

If not try Cpu-z it should give you details on your motherboard, http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

A 7950 out-performs the crap out of an 8600GT. sorry. However, this card might be the better option for him seeing as his 3000+ is going to bottleneck anything more powerful than it.

I think the 6800GT is going to one of the best matches with the 3000+, unfortunatly.

need to find out for sure if you've got an agp or pci-e interface. 6800's predominated in agp flavors, but there were a number of pci-e models produced, too.

start-->"run"-->"dxdiag" enter, click on "display" tab should tell you what interface you have.

Ahh its APG, I want to get a 8600 or 8800 or something but my friends keep saying my motherboard cpu and processor wont handle it. I only have a 2.0Ghz and it lags on some games and MOH:A wont run it at all. I was thinking about just getting a intel duel core and a motherboard and see if that runs it better but im kinda lost here.

yeah the 3000+ 2 years ago was like the E6300 of today. The lowend overclockable (and i mean overclock the****outofable) gaming processor.

I had the 3500+ to begin with as far as 64 bit processors go. But that was 2 rigs ago. Good for then, not really up to par anymore.

And if you upgrade the graphics card you might not see much of an improvement at all. The processor just won't be able to throw much more at the card.

Thats not the best idea because by the time you get a new pc, there will be newer parts on the market

trust me ive done it before

X1950GT/PRO is a good option ATM, aswell as the 7900gs/gt there faster than the 8600gts and cheaper DX10 is no good for anything below an 8800gts/2900xt as the card it too weak to properly handle dx10 games
