    Bacelona benchmarks out!

I know its just anandtech, and the whole thing is pretty rushed, but its a good start to the avalanche of reviews that will soon be coming out.

Faster than k8, but almost the same as the core 2 line.

Here's to hoping that with higher cpu speeds amd will come out on top again.

      Interesting...

I think AMD needs to consider shrinking the die sooner than later... And that makes me wonder if they could implement all there research into a smaller die. My point is are they overkilling the 90nm die or will they actually be able to use that technology on a 60nm die one day?

But yes, crossed fingers that AMD emerges out of the shawdows with something to fight intel. My reasoning is purely for lower prices on all products :)

afaik, barcey is a 65-er. amd is doing well and will continue to do so on the oem side; problem for them is that performance impressions sell low-end on the retail side ("mommie, look: the 8600gt is only 200 little gt's and an x away from an ooberoober 8800gtx for only $130! can i have a pony, too?")

they still make a very good processor and it would be a shame if they fold and leave us with a monopolist trio of intel, nVidia (until intel decides to destroy them, too), and microsoft. that would probably be very bad for we 'puter consumptorz.

Last time I checked, AMD bought ATI....nVidia is an independant company....Microsoft makes software....so this monopolist trio you speak of is a ridiculous statement. everyone I know that has an AMD CPU can run Windows...Intel (while also the largest gpu manufacturer too) focuses on logic (that is the CPU for those of you playing at home).....I get very tired of AMD's 'us against the world' rhetoric year after year...perhaps they should execute rather than whine sometime.

EA will own them all eventually :) :)

lol. last i'd heard, most "thingees" called pc's need (at least):
                a gpu
                a cpu
                an os.

edit: nevermind. the point would be lost

I wondered how long it would take you to realize that.

Why is this article running AMD with DDR2 667 Cas 5? Everyone knows that AMD benefits tremendously from higher speed low cas ram, for example:

Another carelessly done skewed review... people can't do anything right.

I bet it's because they have the server version cpu's, which use stock registered ddr2, and also to keep it the same speed as the intel fb-dimms.

There are boards they can use that have unregistered DDR2. I understand they want to keep them the same, but these results won't show AMD's strengths until they run both types of systems with better memory. I'll wait until I see Core 2 vs. Barcelona run at DDR2 800 Cas 4 or better.
