DX10.1 just adds some HDMI audio support iirc - it won't make a big difference either way imo.

run 2 computers playing BF2 side by side. A 7800GTX vs 8600GTS. The 8600 series isn't going to do very well. Run 2 computers playing a DX10 game and well... the 7 series can't even play can it.

Pardon? There are no DX10 games that do not also run in DX9. There are none currently in the pipes. There were some rumors that Halo 2 (published by who...???) was going to be DX10 only, but the loss of money on that deal would have been embarassing on a lot of levels.

Beyond that, all DX10 cards are obsolete as of Vista SP1 (DX10.1), placing them in the same broad category of superseded video cards as DX9...for which games will continue to abound into the foreseeable future. There is no downside to holding onto a fast DX9 card (or picking one up cheap) while the chips fall--so to speak--around the DX10.x?x?x? specification.

No, it's not obsolete at all (DX10). Most of the requirements (Free 4xAA!!!) are already available. Unless you wish to count Win XP as "obsolete"

I like this kind of move, makes their chips look inferior to the average numbnuts - "Wow, your graphics board thingy supports DirectX 10, big whoop, that other one has version 10.1" and costing more money.

When will we get SLI-certified DirectX, that's the question.

that was my own little joke to myself. Because I couldn't find any games that are DX10 only. Crysis is listed as a DX10 only, but I know it'll be DX9.0c compat. An 8600GT wouldn't knock out a 7800 in the ring. I couldn't even imagine that, doesn't it still have 128 bit memory??

I don't care about all the DX10 stuff, my 8800 can play bioshock maxed out with no problem so therefore its the card for me :) Also, bioshock's graphics and just cause's graphics are good enough for me, so crysis on DX9 mode will be more than enough for my graphic hunger needs.
