    New PC Rig quote!judge plz

Just went to computer store to quote on my new PC upgrade.

not sure if its right now or in 6 months but..

this is what the sales guy suggested >>>vvv

    1 Intel core 2 duo E6420 2.13GHz LGA775 1066FSB

    2 Asus P5K-E wirefire S775 1333FSB raid 1394 G-lan

    3 2xKingston 2 GB DDR2/667 PC5300 singles= 4 GB total

    4 Sapphire 512MB Radeon HD2900XT PCI Express

5 he suggested 750 watt Powersupply
    --------------------------------------------------------------
    my questions

1 is 600 watt powersupply i have now any good?(10 months old)

2 is that mobo 775 pin?and is there much beta for the price?

3 please feel free to judge the mobo and graphics card(im usually a nvidia man for 3 years now)

4 the main reason for this is to dx10 and is the right time now?and to use my vista 64 for once.

5 i know it aint top stuff but apparently the 8800 is mega cash???

    I got quoted mobo 249$au
    mother 269$au
    ram 179$x2=358$au
    graphic 569$au
    HD320GB 115$au<is good
    powerbox 169$au

total 1729$au first quote and i should get better?

It would probably be good, although it depends on the brand. Do not skimp on a PSU, as it will blow up and take your hardware with it. Make sure it's a good brand like OCZ, PC Power and Cooling, Enermax etc...

He means LGA775. This is the socket type of new Core 2 Duo PC's. As for price, i think that's pretty fair. I'm not sure how much more expensive things are is Australia though.

At the moment, i personally would advise an Nvidia 8 series as its just as powerful, but smaller, more green and has greater compatibility.

Its not the right time for DX10. Do not buy a graphics card now for DX10. Buy it because its a brilliant DX9 card. If you want DX10, wait for the next series release!
And Vista 64 is retarded when it comes to drivers. Make sure all your parts have 64bit drivers for them.

You can get a 8800gts for cheaper than a 2900xt. You'de probably be happier as well. Personally, i would say go for a 8800gts 640mb or 8800gtx

Yes, its DX10 compatible, however actual performance in DX10 games is yet to be tested properly. The only available games using the DX10 are poory programmed and thus do not show the full potential of the card.

For now, buy the 8800gts or gtx because its an awesome DX9 card, not because its DX10 compatible.

          okiedokie, i'll take a shot.

the motherboard is a newer 1333mhz fsb chipset, but your cpu is still a 1066mhz jobbie. if a decent 1066 chipset is offered for a cheaper price, you're not getting any direct benefit out of the top-of-line p35. they are nice boards, though.

hd2900xt is a better card than the 8800gts in terms of pure horsepower, but usually not for the money. gts' can be had for < $300 USD, i bet that xt adds $4-500 to the price. also, the 2900xt will want more juice, and it will consequently run hotter.

i like amd/ati, but i'm passing until they shrink the die and shrink the heat. that's my $0.02.

edit 1: and that ram is pretty awful. awfully slow; pretty awful brand. (ok, it's adequate, not awful, but for the money? yick.)

            Wait 6 months for:

            DX10.1
            Bearlake chipsets (some out now)
Penryn Cores (maybe the AMD stuff)
            DDR3 & PCI-E 2.0
            nVidia 9800x GPUs

            And more...

            Patience pays off.

that's always true. also, you can always wait to spend money. the trick is to have fun with the money you're willing to spend.

              those 9800's...$$$$
              bearlak and ddr3 $$$$$

current software runs very, very well on current medium-highish end hardware (c2d, $200 gpu, decent board, 2gigs of ram).

Those are major differences, though, aside from the 9800x cards. It's like buying an AMD processor when C2Ds were about to come out in 6 months.

What happens when Nvidia comes out with a 9800xt? It's already an ATi card.

Do not buy AMD, seriously, unless you like the feeling of disappointment, get an Intel Core 2 Duo

LOL. And I have an AMD processor Alex, works fine for me. Better than an Intel I once had [a few months back] IMO.

It's all taste baby. And gravy pot pie.

A few months back, you would have had a Intel CPU based on the netburst architecture, and they are crap. Its the new Core architecture that's awesome!
