    New 8800 driver 163.44 = bad

    Hey,

I recently upgraded my vid drivers to the 163.44 and encountered my first graphics errors/glitches last night.

In wake island, going to attack the chinese airfield in the attack helo as a gunner in TV mode, the tank I was targetting at the edge of the runway literally disappeared into the runway on the TV camera view. I remember having that problem with my old rig too...

In shargi one round my sand bags around TOWS and IGLAs/Stingers suddenly changed to solid brown ground texture like walls. After the round ended they resumed back to there normal appearance.

Interestingly enough, my friend who has a GTS 640mb was also getting terrian glitches where everything on the ground turned to "patches of black". Note that this occured on wake island too. I think it has more to do with the map than the computer in that case as thats 3 confirmed computers having problems on the map, two with 8800 cards.

Anyways, just thought I'd put it out there that the 163.44 drivers may not be all that great for anyone to waste there time with. I'm going to go back to my 158.22 driver as it worked fine for me.

Speaking of going back to older drivers, I think its almost time to do some fall cleaning and start fresh again. Getting too many random freezes the past few days and I can't ID the problem.

isn't it just a beta driver?

I have this driver too for my 8600GT, but when I downloaded it, it was in beta. I haven't noticed any problems with it yet

Nothing wrong with this driver.. works well. The errors the creator of this thread is having is from file corruption from another source most likely from past driver installs and not installing new ones properly with a imcomplete uninstall and clean of older drivers.

So don't come on here making a thread to destroy a driver cause of your own experiences when its perhaps something else and you haven't researched it well enough. Too much of that going on and thus scares other users from trying them out for themselves.

intall the drivers properly? Sorry, could you pull out the manuel on how to install drivers properly while your out here education everyone?

oh wait, you didn't?!?! My bad.

There are two ways to install new drivers and yes, I did check with someone who is very familiar with computers before I installed them.

Option a) DL and install. So simple its like taking candy from a baby.

Option b) delete the previous drivers and install the new ones. This can be somewhat more complex than option a) if you do not know what you are doing.

but since your out on a bach and not offering help, please feel free to contiue.

Don't be so up on yourself here.. I've been doing work on computers for the last 15years.

The proper way to install drivers is not only to uninstall them but to use a utility like Driver Cleaner to make sure you've removed the drivers fully... reboot to safe mode cause we all know windows likes to retain files.. run the utility again which I'm sure you will see more files it picks up to completely remove them. Reboot back to normal, install the new drivers (ensure they are compatible!!!..if not use a modified INI file to force the update) One final reboot and then adjust settings.

Consider that Option C and the only Option that does a complete uninstall of old and install of new drivers.

Need any thing else just PM me I'll be happy to help.

If you're on Vista, there is no need to restart or use driver cleaners providing you have already installed drivers, because they run in user mode :yay:

nope.. I highly suggest you follow the above procedures even for Vista.

Seen it first hand with Ultimate

Never had a problem. You don't need to restart either.

Just saying I've seen issues unless you do the required steps...and this is on many systems including laptops.
