AMD Dual-core optimizer

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor and I downloaded and installed the optimizer, but whenever I click the application, nothing happens. I've looked on their website and couldn't find anything about the problem. I have Windows Vista, and it says it's compatible.

And since I haven't gotten to see what it does yet... is it really worth it?

That would be because it isn't needed in Vista.

i dunno really what it does, splits up programs evenly? BF2 runs best when you set it on just one core. At least, in XP.

I use it but haven't noticed anything different from before I installed it.

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.

Actually, this helps when you run BF2 and don't go through the steps to set your affinity to 0. BF2 always would crash on me before I installed this last year.

Nope NOTHING splits up programs, Windows just automagically tried to seperate stuff to different cores.

FTR, i'm running a Quad in Vista without needing to do anything to BF2

Its an amd only problem, dual and quad core cpu's from intel don't need this patch.

You're right, they just use the hotfix that Microsoft put out,

Well I always set affinity 1 or 0 on the AMD 4400+ I had because I noticed the game ran smoother and didn't crash to desktop nearly as often. Its only an AMD issue. Now with my Core2Duo I don't have to set anything.

you can apply this in Vista but you need to right click on the file, go to properties and set it to run as a Admin...thats why when you click on it its not doing anything.
