Pentium D, Core 2, Dual core

Simple question really....

Is there a difference, or are they the same? My comp says its running Pentium D, can i assume its running two processors?

No.

A pentium D is not a core2duo as I think you've intended to ask. Yes, it does have duel cores though.

The difference between a PD and a C2D is the architecture which is what makes the CPU good. Simple example is a celery vs say a... P4. You can have a higher clocked celery IE. 3ghz and a 2.8ghz P4 and the P4 would trash the celery.

Thats an old example but it applies to duel cores too... Your PD is not going to perform up to a C2D level even if its clocked faster.

you can run Cpuz to find out the exact model number of your processor, and then do a google search to find out more about it.

A pentium D is not a Core2Duo for the second time.

Presler would be the code name for the architecture design of the PD you are using. C2D is a different architecture.

Think of a maze. You have one end your start and the other your finish. a PD has more zig zags and turn arounds vs a C2D which will have literally a straight line from start to finish in terms of performance vs other chips.

Ok I see now. Cpu speed has little to do with the actual power of the processor. Architecture (sp) is more important.

What core 2 duo processor would have equivalent speed to mine?

The slowest one, so I'd say the e4300.
