Hey,

Ok i decided against buying a pc from Dell, as i bought one 14 months ago to realise which i basically screwed myself over on the upgrable possibility on it !

SOO!

Im going to go for the challenge of,

Building My Own Pc!

Ok i have never built one before, so i dont know what kind of Motherboard i need, what Proccesor, or PSU, i also need a good graphics card that will run BF2 on high, at cheapest possible...

Basically i need to know, a good motherboard with a compatable proccesor like AMD/Intel because i know there differnt, i like AMD but i will use intel, as long as the motherboard will be compatable and its at the right price!

Im getting 2GB of memory from Crucial, unless someone can recommend a cheaper english site..

a GOOD HDD site to get around a 250Gb - 320GB as
Cheap! as possible.

I have a DVD Writer, and optical Cd Drive thingy maboby


Also can someone recommend a good site for cases, not to expensive say £60 Max for a good case... i dont know

My budget:

£600 GBP Around $1200 dollars... i'd much prefer to buy from english sites, you could understand as shipping from US is alot and add that to each item, it can add up to another £100 in shipping ($200USD).!

Id like to not spend all the money, save some for games Ect..
I have a 19" screen already... + Keyboard & Mouse.

And i havent looked at cases, i know i need to look for a case which supports ATX Motherboards (i thinks its ATX) meaning it will fit most newer motherboards ( I THINK ^_^ )

Links to sites would be useful, as i can check them out, tell me if its good or not ect...

Dont get too technical here as im a newbie!

Any Help IS VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
And someone who is a specialist in it, we can talk over Xfire. Would Benifit me much more being explained rather than reading!

Just down right "no" to that case. It may look good, but it will be flimsy and tacky looking in real life (trust me, i have made the same mistake)

As for PSU's, 600W is really what you need. It will support your current hardware and will enable you to upgrade in the future.

btw, the general rule of thumb is that cases which come with PSU's are usually naff (IE, cheap and not very good).

I will see where i can knock some cash off (probably CPU). Will you be overclocking btw to get maximum performance out of the CPU? If so, i can choose a much cheaper CPU and let you OC it.

i would prefer the AMD 5600+ proccesor it seems very good! better than intel,
but i cant find a motherboard thats supports it, well i have probably found one but havent realised on that yo yo tech site!

I don't think you could be any more wrong. Intel out-performs AMD at every level, and unless your a real AMD fan boy, you'de be mad to go for a AMD over a Core 2 Duo.

If your not going to overclock, then the CPU stays as it is. I may look at other cheaper options then.


Jeez, i can't go much cheaper without reverting to a 1066mhz processor rather than the new 1333mhz ones. That would also mean going to an older P965 based board rather than a new P35 chipset based board.

You sure, you cannot find another £100 to make £700 total, you sure???

......look.... The PSU is the most important part of a computer, as it has the capability to blow everything up if it goes wrong. Your most basic rule is NEVER go for a cheap PSU. The one you chose is a generic brand. They will perform aweful, and may go seriosuly wrong, taking your PC with it. So, in short, no.

I'd go with his first suggestions they look good and fit your new budget. And like he stated, you could probably sell your current Dell to make up for some of the difference.

Go with this set up. Acutally comes to about £678 but i rounded it to £700 to include posting. Its the best you'll get for that amount of monies.
