    Computer NOT detecting mouse??

I installed an old optical mouse I dug up recently [USB not PS/2] for my lappy which uses Vista.

The CD program I installed for the mouse is called Logitech MouseWare 9.7. it installs perfectly and everything but the mouse doesn't even light up [the little red light underneazth, you know].

I took it apart and everything is connected. I think Vista isn't acknowledging the driver or something. Because I also dug up an OLD ARSE Dell keyboard and plugged it in, within seconds I was ready to go.

Any advice on what to do? I looked in the Add Hardware thing, the Mouse properties, chose to use external mouse but no mouse is recognized.

I have four USB ports on my lappy. they take the keyboard fine but the mouse still don't work. It doesn't light up, it may be just broken or sumthing but it worked fine the last time i used it. it was saved up in my closet in a shoebox with the keyboard lol..

i think windows vista sometimes doesnt recognize certain peices of hardware. maybe your mouse is one of them?

I really doubt it, the mouse is probably toast.

The mouse is gone, Vista is hardware agnostic AFAIK (i.e. doesn't care).

A no brainer here: Try the mouse on another computer....one preferably running winXP and see if it works!!!

Works = Good...install mouse drivers in XP mode on VISTA
No Work = buy a new mouse

even if the mouse isn't recognized it would still power up. aka you'd see the red led light up. It was probably old and found hiding because its broken.
