Laptop Choices

I have deceided to get a laptop within the near future and have narrowed it down to two laptops. This laptop would be used for mostly school and photography use so it needs to be mobile, while also I would like it to be a good gaming platform. The two laptops are the new Inspiron 1520 with the T7300 (2.0 GHz) , 2Gb RAM, and 256Mb NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. And my second choice is the Asus G2P with the T7600 (2.33 GHz), 2Gb RAM, and 512Mb ATI Radeon X1700. The Dell would be somewhere around $1500 CA after taxes while the Asus, which is being bought from a friend would only be $1200 CA with no taxes. But the Asus is also 2" bigger and almost 4 pounds more which does cause a problem with moblility. I've read lots of reviews and am still unsure of which to get.

If any of you have had any experience with either of these notebooks it would be great to hear from you and get your opinions. Or if anyone has any other options for laptops in the same price range I would also like to hear your input but be aware that these are canadian dollars not US.

Get the dell, while the cpu is slower the much faster gpu will more than make up for it.

you could try some other brands...maybe toshiba. dells aren't always a good choice after the experiences ive had

Woah I'm looking at lappys too and I went and took a look at the dell models tonite...

The 1520 beats the 1720 by far. The only advantage of the 1720 is thta it is a 2" bigger screen but you want mobility anyways..

But what caught my eye was you could upgrade the 120 GB 5400rpm hd to a 120GB 7200RPM hd with the 1520. Oddly you can't do that with the 1720...

I think I will go with the 1520 dell myself though mine will cost 1700 CA after taxes probably because of the 7200rpm upgrade and sound card upgrade and uhh. the sleeve bag case.

Yah, from what I'm hearing here and from the other forums I've dropped the question on it seems that the Dell is looking better and better every minute. I'm not in a rush to get it so I will probably hold off until after the school year begins and Dell puts up the big sale to get rid of its extra "Back to school" stock.
