Recovering RAID-0 array?

Ok, my motherboard just died. Like, absolutely died and I cannot find a single place in this country where I can buy a replacement for it.


I have 2 hard drives in a RAID-0 array, (stupid of me for doing so and not backing stuff up) I have very valuable files on there that I need.

My question is, can I get a new motherboard and transfer my RAID hard drives over to it without reformatting them?


If I have not made this post clear enough, please say so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Try to find a mobo with the same chipset, thats the closest you're gonna get. Otherwise, expect to pay upwards of $2k to get that data back.

Yea, with RAID 0, i always try and make sure my stuff is backed up. It's either going to be quite hard getting your data back, or very expensive.

If i were rich enough, i'd buy another 2 hardisks and make RAID 10 :P

I've used their NTFS recovery program and it's excellent. It doesn't recover non-contiguos large files, however.

Best thing to do, I think, would be to image the drives using that program and keep those as backups. You should be able to use the GetDataBack program to recover all the smaller files (it doesn't find large, say 1GB files in my experience).

Or at least the same RAID controller chip if it isn't integrated like nVidia's. I'd be interested to know if Runtime's RAID reconstructor will work with drives on a different controller than the one that created the RAID.
