Nah. That black triangle coming from your at mine is typical of a thermal problem--in BF2, anyway.

The fact that this coincides with the hottest week this year in the U.S. (making assumption here) leads me to believe you've still got some thermal issues.

did you take your card out of the socket and blow the vents out when you cleaned? that made ALL the difference when I was running on an x800xt--it would pull air from the front thru vents, but the vents would get clogged occasionally...giving me giant black spikes just like ^ one.

i hate my vf900-cu. bought a coolermaster gpu cooler instead, and am much happier for it.

@lonegunm4n no its not possible i only have older agp cards to test which obviously dont fit into my motherboard

I live in the UK and its a pritty average week not so hot, but neither that cold and ive been having this problem for at least a month

Yeh the card itself is fully clean of dust as far as i can see, but the 7900gs cooler is pritty small and weak and leaves the memory completely bare as you can see

And why do you hate your VF900-CU? ive only seen good reviews from it

Downclock the card first of all, specially the memory clock.

Get a new cooler that'll cover the VRAM chips, and failing that, get a heatsink for each of them.

Hold the fan with your thumb to prevent damage and force compressed air through those vents if you haven't. Sometimes the dustbunnies get back there where you can't see them and start fornicating, then you get insulation around your gpu instead of conductivity.

after that, it's easy enough to confirm whether it's a heating problem by leaving the side panel off and seeing if very low temps temps yield no artifacts.

oh, and i doubt it, but there's an off-chance your gpu could be dying. do what campers suggested and see if it helps.

RE: vf900-cu, I've got no side vent on my case (which is inside my desk), therefore the vf900-cu does a good job of pulling heat off the gpu, but then it just swirls it around in my case until it drifts out the back. Tried more than a few reseats...same problem: highest max in LOTRO was 96C; new coolermaster cool-viva is now 78C, and it's quieter, too. Oblivion would go over 100C, which is why I stopped playing oblvion after getting the x1950xt.

vf900-cu should work well in a case with a side-vent (or intake) or a case that isn't mostly shut up inside a desk. In my instance though, forced exhaust was required.

edit: like campers ^ said, for longevity of video cards, nothing beats BGA (vram) heatsinks.

ive figured the problem out

I placed a desk fan close the the open panel of my case and turned it on to full speed this eliminated the problems i was having therefore problem must be the heat

I have a side intake fan so the VF900-CU shouldnt be a problem and i have some good silver thermal paste left over from when i installed an NV5 cooler on my 7800gt, installation looks simple enough compared to other coolers like the AC S1/S2 so im gonna pick the VF900-CU up this weekend

Ill keep you posted on the results

ok the first thing you should do is get the latest drivesr for the card. Thats the first thing you should do, and it usually clears up the situation. Then maybe downclock the card. But if you have to do that from stock speeds then theres something wrong with it.

I have a VF900-CU in a case without a side fan or anything, and it works great. Keeps my 7600gt under 55C while playing games.
