Disenchanted with my p180. Anyone have any experience with these...

Meh. The p180 is ok for noise, but it isn't nearly as cool as I expected. I got a little cash from a travel award recently ($450), so I'm thinking about a new processor (mightily overclocked pentium d 915 gets the job done, but the older it gets the worse my vDroop is looking) and a transplant and ebaying the old stuff. Thing is, I want to get back into a small(ish) form factor.

Thinking about a silverstone sg03 case:

The layout of the case impresses me. I may not have to break out the dremmel to make her a lubberly lady. Two ports for 120mm fans in the front, another "cross flow fan" option, and the ability to vent some of the hot air from the cpu/vid card directl out through the psu (not ideal, but you go with what works). They give it a good review here, and I'm just about sold (aside from their abysmal cable routing):

And one of the new g33 chipsets, particularly looking at the Asus P5K-VM:
Shop Newegg for fast and FREE shipping on HP GPUs / Video Graphics Cards with the best prices and award-winning customer service.

The board doesn't look like much of an overclocker and I couldn't find any reviews, so I'm probably going to pick up an e6400, e6600 (or something there abouts) on ebay. The mobo looks like it will have clearance for my x1950xt and pci soundcard.

Rest of specs: 2x1gb ddr800 (they need 2.1v)
3x samsung hd160hj hd's--going to have to put one in an e-sata enclosure, might try the internal ones in raid0 again, depending
    1xoptical
    x1950xt
    650W antec trio psu
    xfi music

I expect my freezer 7 pro is too big for that case, any suggestions for a lower profile cooler? Maybe something like a zally cnps8000:

What you have there is fine no need for the xtra cooler

Thanks for reply. I decided to put a different cooler on my x1950xt (one that exhausts air out the back, instead of the vf900-cu, which just circulates it), and a different intake fan at the front of the case.

Now I don't break above 75C when running the fan on video card full blast, and I can still hardly hear my pc.

:yay::yay: saved myself ~$300 (still going to get the C2D when something I like pops up on ebay for the right price from the right seller)

The Allendale cores are stupidly cheap, £30 here. How lame, I bought my E6300 for what, £120 just a few months ago.

i'm holding out for an e6600 for ~$120. I've seen them go for $135 + ~$10 shipping. Half the satisfaction of building (for me) is getting the pieces dirt cheap and making the most out of them...hence my sweaty Pentium D.

man but that's a nice micro case for all my components.

on the other hand, i could drop a new q6600 in their for ~$300 or a used e6600 for less than $150....

i hate decisions. think i'll wait until prices fall again to decide. :)

Keeping the big silver box for a while longer.

I bought a better cooler for my gpu and an e6600...so now I've hit my limit on hardware for a while.

              Thx for inquiry, though.
