    Yes is will run rings around your 1600 and is the best bang for buck dx9 card on the market right now.

          Maybe my own experience was a single occurence. But I had a 512MB one just like that in PCI-E and it died within minutes. Cheap components, I think.

            I wouldn't fool with upgrading if your going to stick to AGP... its kinda a waste and your at the end. Best to save up and go PCIexpress and upgrade from there.

                You should have sat tight and waited for some suggestions but oh well.

                Simply put, AGP is a port that your vid card plugs into and is old. All the new stuff is on PCI-E which is faster than AGP. AGP cards also tend to be more expensive for less performance.

                For you to buy that mobo you will prolly need a new cpu because I'm guessing your old system is from the AGP days meaning it is a S478. The mobo you posted about supports S775.

                And to answer your question about the ram you will only be able to use a maximum of two slots at any given time. You cannot run ddr in drr2 or visa versa because of the "plug". One uses 184 pins and the other, 240 pins - Kind of like UK 240V plugs vs NA 120 plugs.

                Now since you ordered you ram, here is my suggestion to you. Stay with your current build and put your new ram in it. Save up your money for a totally new computer with a mobo that supports DDR2/C2D/PCIE -RAM/CPU/Vid card.

                    Re: Need Video Card Opinion

                    AGP/PCIE combo on a MoBo is hard to come by.

                    It all depends on much you are willing to spend really and whether or not you want to keep your dimm sticks or upgrade to ddr2 (which I recommend).

                    Let's say you are on a very tight budget but want to get decent stuff.

                    CPU: $179 - E6550 2.33 Ghz 1333 FSB 4 MB cache. (OC this baby)

                    MoBo/Vid card combo: $143 - 7600 GS included.(If you can dish out more for a better MoBo I would..)

                    RAM: $89 - OCZ 2x 1GB sticks

                    Total = $441

                    *Note* I'm not sure if this mobo has potential to be OC thus meaning the current CPU I selected may not be able to run at stock speed of 1333 FSB though I think it should reach it. Then again, that is a very cheap combo so don't expect much from it either.

                    I would also invest in a aftermarket fan. Bang for you buck is the Artic freezer pro 7 I think its called. If you are willing to spend a little more, anything with thermaltake is a good brand. I personally like my zalman 9700.

                    My suggestion:

                    Mobo: $150 - Says to be a great OC'er as someone got 3ghz on his E4300 + dual PCIE 16X slots.

                    Vid Card:
                    1) $190 - X1950 PRO 512MB - The same card you bought but PCIE.

                    2) $160 - 8600GTS MSI 256mb DX10.
                    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127284

                    3) Go with a 7600 - 7950 if you want NVIDIA DX9. They range from 100-190. I think the x1950 is suppose to beat them though.. Don't know for sure though. Hope this helps.

                    With the 2nd mobo I suggested, your tag will start @ $418.

                    ATI = $608
                    NVIDIA = $578

                    Oh yeah, if you can still afford it, up the ram to 800mhz vs the 667 sticks. Good brand names are OCZ, Crucial, Cosair, Patriot...

                    If I messed up somewhere you have to excuse me, I'm very tired and thought I'd squeeze this in quickly for you and turned out to be a bit longer than I had thought.

                        sapphire USED to be a very crappy ATI manufacturer. But now, they're actually one of the most popular manufacturer. When it comes to ATI cards I only get the ones that are actually made by ATI.
