imho, that's not too bad.

i'd have gone for a rebuild + ebaying old components while ppl are still buying them, but that's sometimes a hassle. you'll get medium-ish performance, for a very good price, and you'll be able to sell your proc. on ebay for about what you paid for it when you decide to upgrade.

thanks for your insight everyone and also im sorry if you researched really hard for me for no reason because of my decision to go with the E4400. anyways i'll keep you updated when i get the parts

no prob. it's fun to mix and match components with other people's money. :P

good luck with your system; don't think you'll be unhappy with the results. going from a celery d (those weren't awful celery's, btw) to an e4400 will make your windoze boot a lot quicker, a lot better for task switching, and a lot better for running programs in the background because of the better architecture. i have no prob task switching and running internet (hard rock) radio + ventrilo + BF2 + speedfan + ati tray tools + rest of background with my pentium d, and an e4400 is head and shoulders above that.

well i think ive decided to go with the e4400 because i'll be able to use my AGP graphics card and DDR memory for now and then upgrade to DDR2 and PCI-E later on.. is this a wise decisio? i plan on buying these:

Actually, its a pretty bad idea. Not only are you using a sketchy mobo (agp works, but its a via chipset), but your cpu will be bottlenecked to hell using that ram. It would have been much smarter to live with what you have and to upgrade all at once.
