      Re: intel

They have released the new Exx50 models which i believe just have higher clock speeds, and on some models have greater amounts of cache. I don't really stay up to date on the latest proposed price cuts though.

sigh...i wasn't fast enough. all my cheap quads are gone.

        guess i'm pentium d'ing for a while longer. it really isn't a bad processor, for a net(suck)burst.

at least they're back in stock. I'm thinking $320 (or even $300) is still a bit steep. believe i'll let things cool off a tad.

Prolly a wise idea. Apparently ncix.ca is selling them for $290 right now.

Who knows really.. My eyes are set on these 1333 fsb now.

There is now no point in buying the E6600 because of the new cards, the E6750 replaces the E6600 and is cheaper, also the E6850 is a great CPU running @ 3Ghz and is great for OC'ing too. The Q6600 is my choice of CPU at the moment, very future proof and can OC nicely with the G0 stepping. The 1333FBS isnt really playing that big a part in performance yet, but if you are a gamer and dont do much 3D rendering or whatnot, then the E6850 is your man, nice and cheap and brilliant for current games.

The Q6600 does not have GO stepping. This is your regular quad core that has been on the shelves for the longest time now. It is your standard B2 stepping 1066 FSB cpu.

As I, you and others have stated, the EXX50's are the cpus with the GO stepping + 1333 RSB.

Ps. I read that a quad core should be able to use two different FSB or something like that. From what I understood, it is two dual cores made into one sharing the same FSB. People argue that the FSB should be different or something, not sure. I haven't done a lot of research about it, just speculation I have picked up when looking into other things so don't qoute me on that...

                        Qfrickin'6600:

two days ago, it was $299.

                        yesterday, $320.

                        today: $375

Did newegg forget that technology is supposed to have a negative appreciation over time? :censored: :censored: :censored: I mean Fartknockers! Guess I can't blame them; they were still making money @ $299, and if people are still paying $375...STOP!!!! JUST QUIT IT NOW! UR RUINING MY "BUDGET QUAD" BUILD! :thatsbad:

I should've gotten it when it was $299. Now, I'm considering going with an e6420 instead.

edit: or maybe an e6750 instead.

edit2: tiger is scooping the egg on the price by ~$80. now my billfold itches.

edit again: but that's ^ for an OEM w/12 month warranty instead of intel's normal 3-year.

                        sigh.

the G0 stepping Q6600's (@system: that's "gee-zero", not "go" ) are not in the distribution channel yet. Made my decision easy: pre-order from tankguys, wait until sept-august when it ships. Crysis uses cpu cycles for physics calculations; nothing wrong with being able to devote a core (or three) to it whilst letting the other 25% of them coordinate hitboxes. :)

^ i don't claim that the prior statement has any basis any reality, other than the reality that extra cores to render physics modeling software will put ageia out of business. if you own stock, it's time to pull out now.

We take Intel's Core 2 Quad Q6600 for a spin on two motherboards to find out if it could be the next Athlon XP 2500+. Read on to find out how we got on...

^interesting to note that even the current b3's will overclock to +1333mhz fsb in the right motherboard, and that an overclocked $299 B3 ever-so-slightly out performs got to finish in a min.

To the above, when I was looking at a comparison chart of intels batch of C2d's, there was no special pro Q6600 edition on it. Either way, I was referring to "Q6600" which is the normal dusty quad on the shelves (up until recently I suppose).

I didn't know of a Pro Q6600. Sounds cool, be sure you don't get ripped off then

...and that's absolutely amazing to my eyes.

there is no "special" nor "pro edition" of the q6600. as intel and their partner's processes are refined and mature, the wafers and lot's simply (usually) get better. the B3 stepping q6600 *is* the (quite good, btw) dusty, off the shelf product that the x-bit reviewers used. the fact that the overclocked B3 q6600 is slightly faster than a stock qx6850 was surprising; the fact that it is significantly faster than the similarly priced e6850 should give anyone pause who is considering purchasing half the cores for the same price.

the latest revision (G0 stepping) that will be in the distribution chain soon should make that decision a no-brainer for anyone thinking about splashing out anything in the neighborhood of $300 for a cpu. i like it; i do.
