    $800-1,000
    Nuts much?

Consoles offer a "straight out of the box lets game" capability. PCs are for people who actually know what they need, want and know that consoles arent enough for them. Seen many dumbusers in PC world? I have. You spend a hefty 400 bucks for a console, hook it up and wh0re it up in games you wouldnt play on a PC. You need to spend sh!tload of money to create that kind of environment on a PC (X times more than getting a console and simply attaching it to your already purchased home video entertainment system). And you will still not be able to get games that are aimed at the console market. Those fun games you can play with your buds. Those single player games you can play on your own.

Most of my great friends from SWAT4 community have (voila!) chosen the Xbox360 (console), because it offers them the best tactical CQB sim with online community and gaming network. Some have gone to extremes and Ive never seen them on Xfire. Rest assured, if consoles will ever reach the level where they will effectively duke it out on BF2-esque game market, aswell as the RPG market, they will take their share of the big pie.

        AGREE!!!

i also agree with stephensolfo. its much more social... in some weird way. i mean.. you dont invite your buddies home to watch you play pc, now do you?! no you dont. and some people thinks lan parties are nerdy. so a console is very good in any of those ways. BUT, ofcourse, people who dosent have those problems, a pc is better. i have a pc and a ps3. i had the ps3 before i got this new kickass comp, and i dont play much ps3 anymore. it simply havent had its time yet. but that time will come! when GTA, Home, Little Big Planet, more and more comes out. and ofcourse the firmwares. but intill then, pc is the best. not for buddies and beer ofcourse! haha. :P that sounded good.. i dont drink beer though.. then it dident sound so good after all. :/

Im not sure what thats supposed to mean but if it has anything to do with consoles having a "larger variety" of games, I hardly see your point.

You act like console gaming isnt the dominant force in video games?

Why do you think consoles have a vast variety of game genres? Its because most of the big distributors invest there money towards console gaming instead of the pc. Console gaming is where the money's at.

              I disagree.

People who still buy gaming consols are the ones who are in love with a special series of games. The other justification to buy a gaming consol was for your kid because it was $200-400 when released - Oh wait, excuse me, they are closer to $800-1,000 now.
Where did you get thos prices for consoles, the gold plated console website?

The PS3 is only marginally more expensive than the PS2 was at launch, easily within $100 or 50 British Pounds. This article indicates the PS2 sold for $368 new

and heres a link showing Amazon selling the PS3 within that stated $100 price range.

So $800 - $1000 is very far off the mark. Infact I don't think you could build a PC that would be able to out power a PS3 for $1000.

The only part I will agree with you is the hassel of computers at times although you make it seem like a world of fear on a day to day basis which is not true.
It isn't a world of hassle for someone who knows what they are doing but the guy who wants to play games but knows nothing about computers is going to have a faster and easier time buying a console than he is a gaming PC. Plus if you show that same guy a PS3 at $500 and then a gaming PC that can match it that is three times the price (yup we all know those companies rip off those that can't build them themselves) then he's just gonna wonder why waste the cash?

The gaming PC has and always will be aimed at the enthusiast market were as the console is aimed at everyone else.

                To the above ^^

You find my price tags exagerated but they are not. At release, in CDN dollars, the PS3 after tax would reach close to $1,000 hence why I left a range of 800-1,000. No random numbers out of my a55, I saw the price tags.

Special series of games, IE ZELDA/FF... ect..

Yes, you are absolutely right about your avg consumer not being computer smart. Chris stated that his buddys looked at what gaming consol would offer them the best experience - translate that into a computer geek/nerd and that would be someone who knows how to build a decent or high end rig with a nice personal saving bonus.

To Chris again, you can pretty much play every game (every game I ever wanted to anyways) on the computer through the use of ROMS and emulators. Woah, suddenly you can play the very first games that came out all the way to ps2.. I'm not going to say xbox 360 or ps3 because I never looked into it but I wouldn't be surprised to find a rom/emulator to play a "ps3 only" game on the computer.

But again, I suppose thats me being a computer junky (somewhat haha) vs your avg consumer at which point the tables turn and the gaming consol will win.

Anyways, I'm not totally against consols as my view has indicated nothing but - I just choose not to buy them simply because they are overly priced for the first year and so to are the games usually. When you look at these "hot" games on ps3, they are like 60-90 bucks. You don't get that with computer games, well unless you buy a special edition or something like that... And then to top it all off, with in a few years your system is crap and suddenly everyone is onto the next overly prices gaming consol vs your computer that you can simply and cheeply upgrade.

And I wont lie, when you get a lan party of HALO with 16 ppl that is loads of fun... Though I'm at a loss because I don't know the controller configs.

Big bag of steaming bullsh!t, son.

Heres a kicker, the only true reliable all-playing ROMS are still only playing NES, SNES, and the older 16 bit console games. Even right now, youre in deep sh!T if you want to find a truly working PSOne ROM that. Usually you have to download multiple of them to get "that" or "that" game running. And I will not even start talking about PS2 ROMs...

Why do I seem hostile here? Because Ive screwed up too many of my nerves trying to download and work with various ROMs for consoles. Its not worth the hassle.

And "hot" games are basically in the same pricerange- 10 dollar difference isnt that much. Consider this- Betafield 2 with up to 1.41 patch, and still a fvcked up game. Or Burnout 2: POI (my most favourite car game ever)- total fun for more than 3 years now.

Theres a thing called "a matter of taste", and then theres ignorant defense and being a fanboi.

You would need an emulator that has the ability to recombine up to 8 processing threads, convert the code and then redistribute those threads to however many avaliable resources you have within your PC. Since their is no universal program avaliable that allows you to take a single thread game and turn it in to one that uses multi-threading, combined with the lack of a decent stable XBox or PS2 emulator I am willing to say it's going be a very long time, if ever, before we see a PS3 emulator.

Wrong. When sony originally was designing the ps3, they intended for the cell processor to do everything. Unfortunately, it just wasn't powerful enough so they had to bring in nvidia to slap a gpu in at the last second. The end result is that the gpu is a gimped 7800gtx (slower core, 128bit mem bus, shared memory). None of the consoles are using dx anything, the closest would be the 360, and its so modified that you really can't call it dx9.

This mans that Nvidia can take its sweet time bringing out its 8900 range as there is no direct competition. Nvidia has yet to release ANY type of date for the 8900 series which tells us it is at least 4-5 months away.
Ati tried to release a card that would kill the gtx, but they fail miserably, and decided to just compete with the gts (which is still faster). Nvidia is not taking their sweet time, as they know the best time to kick a man is when he's already down. The 8800ultra was the refresh, so the new cards (which will be launched sometime in nov, same time as the 6xxx,7xxx,and 8xxx series were launched) will be the 9800 series (supposedly).

It doesn't require a huge amount of on board RAM because it doesn't have to load a resource hogging OS. It is also more than capable of streaming data directly from the DVD / Blu-ray drive, something that the old PS2 managed to perfect towards the end of it's life. Also you can take in to account the fact it also has a HD which allows it to do a kind of cache memory trick ala Windows albeit without the cr*pness imposed by Windows.

I think you got a little too excited to bash me down and misread my post. I stated when ps3 first was released. Yes, you are correct about the current price listing after a 300 cut was done. Congrats.

You two can keep thrashing out posts defending the gaming consol and argue its cheaper, which to a degree it is.

Lol. Sorry, I guess when I glanced over at EBgames Canada's website and saw the first 4 ps3 games came to a total of $80 each that it is in fact super cheap? Yes everyone has there different tastes, hence why I didn't pick a paticular game.

Let's run a list of things you will most likely buy after purchasing a PS3..

                              1) Ps3 consol 550 *now*
                              2) extra controller 50
                              3) 1-10 games avg 40-100 *I did a search, lowest being 40 highest being 100 and avg 50-80*
                              4) gamng headset? 20-100

Taking that you buy your PS3 today and buy the cheapest games only x10 your final price tag comes down to:

                              1020 x 1.14 = $1162.80

Lets throw in the real avg game prices though and round them off to 70 now:

                              1320 x 1.14 = $1504.80

Now, lets do a price tag of the original cost of a ps3 at 850 when first released when most people actually bought there ps3:

                              1620 x 1.14 = $1846.80

                              Woah, cheap!

Hey, lets not forgot that a PS3 uses bluray technoloy and can be played using the latest tv resolution - 1080P. Should I add that into the final price tag too or just leave it out?
