The games industry is so f*cking predictable.
This is what will happen:
Release Edition: 8800x cards play on highest resolutions, highest settings, high anti-aliasing. Framerates are in the hundreds, constantly.
First major patch: This is around 6 months later. Performance has not changed for the lower end of the market (i.e. they can still be milked for their money, appealing to the broadest demographic), but higher end PCs will get lower framerates.
Second major patch: The x3xxx and 9xxx cards are now out. 8xxx/x2xxx card performance is now completely average. Crysis is now a buggy lagfest (registered trademark of EA Corp.). Nobody notices, however.
Third major patch: x4xxx and 10xxx series cards are out. 8x series cards play like sh1t on a stick. Nobody notices.
Fourth major patch: Quantum computing takes precedence. Quantum GPGPUs take Crysis to the next level. No significant graphical improvement, however. Nor physics wise. This is 8 years down the line.
Fifth major patch: Second series of quantum computing GPUs are out. No graphical improvement. By now, Crysis is an absolute bugfest and can only be played on quantum computers.
8 years later, with 5 major patches, people look back and say "To think this could have been played on all high with an ancient 8800 card, sheesh".
