    windows vista help

I want to upgrade to vista in a couple weeks, so I just decided to get home basic cuz I can care less about the other features, will Home Basic still be able to play games like Crysis etc?....is it still good for DX10 gaming??

    Re: windows vista help

Alot depends on the rest of your rig. Sure, Home Basic will work, but if you have a higher end rig, Vista Home Premium is best for gaming. Go to a Microsoft website and see the difference between each version. Ultimate has all the business stuff, and costs a lot more than the rest. I highly recommend Home Premium over Basic, and if you want to ever get to 4 gigs of RAM, you have to go with the 64 bit as well. If your rig is on the low end, IMO 2 gigs RAM is minimum.

      Re: windows vista help

if you have a transferable copy of xp or if you can reinstall it, then there is no reason to something-grade (upgrade? maybe someday, but not yet) to vista.

      seriously.

DONT DO IT, dramatically reduces the performance of bf2

not for another year...or two... how many games that you're looking forward to playing are going to be DX10-only? DX10 does have some promise, and it'll do neat tricks someday; its implementation continues to lag sorely.

therefore, if you have a transferable copy of xp (or can reformat using your current one), then keeping your vista dollars in the bank until you need to spend them is a wise choice, imho. if you don't have a transferable copy of xp or can't just reinstall, then it's a no-brainer.

obviously, its your billfold; your decisions.

who told you such things? who's hurt you, sniper? edit: actually, i think this misconception is probably about the only reason ALOT of people who aren't building from scratch are buying vista. there is a huge difference between "supporting" vista/DX10 and "requiring" vista/dx10...about $200, give or take, lol.

That's a lot of technical jargon, so we'll go over each point one by one. The important thing to keep in mind is that you won't have to worry about configuring all of these settings when you install the game, as Crysis will automatically configure itself based on what kind of hardware you have.

if you google: crysis dx9 then you will find some preview comparisons between how the game looks dx9 v. how the game looks dx10. I'd post the links, but there was quite a bit of pottymouthness going on re: vista at the first couple i looked at. gamespot has the video somewhere, i think. like everything else dx10 SO FAR, the results look underwhelming. You might consider holding on to your vista cash until you get some real-world reviews of the final product w/dx10.

Who cares... Crysis + EA = bugs.

No point of a psuedophotorealistic game if it sucks **** on a stick.

Crysis is not going to suck, its DICE that screwed up BF2, Crytek is totally different

Keep deluding yourself, play all the other EA published games and come back and tell me "it's different".
