    computer problems

Ok, my parent's laptop has a couple of problems. Its a dell inspiron, pretty new. Ever since they reformated and reinstalled XP, the computer runs slow as hell. Also, graphics like icons ( for example the Google logo) seems really pixely-not clear. The computer has a gig of RAM but opening programs, sufing the web is very slow. The internet is fine, excellent connection at 54 mbps.

After they reformatted, did they reinstall all the drivers such as graphics, sound, etc..?

Yeah sounds like they are missing some drivers/updates. If you ever formatted and reinstalled XP before, you'd notice everything is slow in the beginning and nasty looking - exactly what you explained to us.

Well try going through microsoft updates and if your done there than I think what you can do is:

My computer > right click > properties > hardware > device manager > xxxxx

If you have a soundcard try looking for it in there and update the drivers through that.

I think the easiest way is knowing the make of your mobo and sound card and just going to the sites and manually downloading the updates.

            you could start here:

and download updated video, sound, and network drivers.

usually, with laptops, there is a cd that you use to restore to "factory new" settings. do you have such a cd?

Yeah, I was going to suggest going to the dell site and d/ling the drivers. i know that for my gateway laptop, the gateway website has all the drivers up for d/l.

Yes, go to the Dell site, type the service tag code, and download all the drivers. You are probably locked to 640x480@60Hz amongst other things.
