installe 2nd dvd drive...

Hey, i'm trying to install another dvd drive and ran into a slight problem.

First off, my other dvd drive is on a SATA port and the only thing I had using the IDE port was my floppy. I removed my floppy drive and siwtched it with a pulled dvd unit from an old computer of mine and uses the IDE port.

Initially I thought this would be an easy switch because I didn't have any problems installing the floppy drive. Right now, the dvd drive is not being recognized by the computer at all. I couldn't see it in the BIOS either, and everything is fit tightly and nicely...

Any thoughts?

I always thought the floppy drive was on its own channel. Did you keep the floppy cable in the same port in the motherboard when you swapped it out? If you did, move it into the main IDE port on your motherboard.

First, a dvd/cd drive does not use the same cable or connector as a floppy drive.

Second, I assume there are no other IDE devices connected on the same cable as the dvd drive. Make syre that it is jumpered as either Master or Cable Select (CS).

Well the only other cable I got with this mobo says its for the HDD and I swear they look identical to the fopply disk cable...

Nope. Floppy and IDE or PATA drives are different. You can keep your floppy hooked up and connect a DVD drive to an IDE channel. Unless you bent the hell out of a pin, you shouldn't even be able to hook up a DVD drive to a floppy connection.

no it slipped in very easily...

I would prefer not to keep the floppy as then I would lose one fan. I am using the antec 900 which has 3 bays that each can hold 3 dvd/cd players etc. Currently I am maxed out in the one bay and to keep the floppy drive would mean sacrificing my cool blue LED fan in the front. I rather just buy a usb port EXT floppy drive.

As for cables, all I got was a floppy disk cable and a HDD cable in the box. I guess I need to look for one.

With my mobo, I got 2 IDE cables, a floppy cable, and 4 SATA cables. I have 2 HDDs on IDE channels, 2 CD/DVD drives on IDE channels, and one drive on a SATA channel. I unhooked my floppy drive to make room for my 8800GTS. I had to rearrange my drives because the cables for my 8800 extended into my drive bays.

mmm...

Well thats my task tomorrow I guess. Kind of sucks, I have been unhooking and hooking this thing up too much in a short period of time. I stuff this thing in the bottom corner of my desk and have to squeeze my head between some boards to see all the wires dangling freely looking for homes... Then of course my hands and arms have to fit into the equation...

It's almost easier moving around inside my case O_0... Ok I lied, that is horrible. Lol.
