Two cards for the visual rendering. And another card is for the Physics.

..but not sure if it's worth it..maybe just go with Nvidias dual configuration and get an ageia card...but I don't know

If I were you I would go for Nvidia's SLI setup cos it much easier to setup than ATI's crossfire.

Nvidia has a similar tri SLI configuration that i have hear about but not tri Crossfire

PS there is also octal SLI which would be nuts

Which cards are you using as part of the tri-crossfire? The new 2xxx series cards or the old 19xx cards? I'm not sure whether the investment would really be worth it. If your hell bent on getting decent performance you should get two 8800gtx's or 8800Ultra's in SLI.

Um why? Get a decent board stick a 8800GTX in it and bang you're done. If you wanna waste money then sure go ahead and buy an Ultra instead of a 8800GTX but why do you want a

1). 2 GPUs when you can do everything you need with just a single card?
2). A seperate physics card when hardly any games exist that require one?

It can't be for future proofing because to date every new top end card has surpassed two Sli'd versions of older cards costing the same price and frankly I can't see that changing any time soon especially if the rumours about just how powerful Nvidias next cards are going to be are true.

Also with multi-core CPUs developers have already caught on that they can use a single CPU core to render physics effects instead of using a dedicated card.

All in all it just seems like a colossal waste of cash.

dont get a phyiscs card. its a complete waste of money. i think there are one or two games that can use it right now (one of them being ghost recon)

just stick with an 8800GTX
