Hey I'm new to the forums and I have a quick question

My dad's computer and my computer both have bf2 installed. For some reason, my bf2 lags like heck in the beginning, and his bf2 runs smooth with very nice frame rates. Keep in mind everything is on medium and the same settings are on both computers. Now these are his specs

Dad's

2.4 GHz AMD Athlon +4000
1 GB Corsair Value Ram
nVidia GeForce 6600 GT

Mine

2.2 GHz OC'd AMD Athlon +3200
nVidia GeForce 6800
1 GB RAM (GeIL + Samsung)

I don't know why, but our computer's are basically identical yet bf2 runs so much better on the same settings. After I added the 512 stick of GeIL RAM to make my comp have 1GB of Ram, my computer read it as DDR 333 Although both ram modules are DDR 400, Just like my dads. I Still don't get it, is there anything I can do to increase performance, or am I just missing something...

The only thing I see is that your CPU is running 800MHz slower than your dad's. We can get nitty gritty and say is your HDD 7200rpm? Have you defrag'ed lately? Have you disabled other programs from running when you play?

Your memory modules are not a matched pair and they have different timings. Your system will read them both at the slower module speed. Get a matched pair, your system will OC better. The difference in processor speeds will play a part in that as well, although, I'm not sure how big a part. Also, if you have enough cooling, OC your graphics card. G O O G L E.:salute:

defrag your HDD on "file performance" setting with Diskkeeper, run Spybot S&D and Adaware SE to remove spyware, use Tuneuputilities to clean your registry and then defrag your registry. Remove your GPU drivers and run Driver Cleaner Pro then install the latest GPU drivers (resetting inbetween when necessary) That should get your system to the point the best it can be.

Then your ram isn;t matched obviously, your CPU has a smaller cache than your dads, you might have overclocked too far for the ram to cope in its unmatched status. Your HDD might be a 2meg cache one where your dads is an 8meg or higher one (that adds so much capability!)

Do all that stuff ^. Most likely, you've got too many processes running. Start-->Run-->type "msconfig" and disable shut down pretty much all the startup items, except for antivirus/antispy. Speaking of that, you should consider giving bf2 a go without your AV/AS running. If you're running a system hog like Macafee or Norton, it could be slowing things down significantly. edit: I'd do the defrag and turn off all unnecessary start-up items and test my AV/AS for pigginess before I started tinkering with the registry, though.

The mixed ram is a minor issue. The cache is more important, but not really that much for BF2. If you did side-by-side tests, you'd see differences in video encoding, cd-ripping, etc. Differences in hd cache would translate into somewhat more protracted loading times, not a jerky screen (unless OP is using virtually all his RAM and the HD is having to fetch a ton of data from the swapfile/pagefile); otherwise, to my knowledge, there isn't any such thing as "hd lag".
