New card for battlefield

Hey all , i have a 6600 gt card but its gettin kinda old so i wanna upgrade so i can play dawn of war, battlefield 2 and 2142 without any problems and on high settings.

Basicly im thinkin about a x1950 pro 512 mb. How good is that card and how much of and improvment will it be.

Also i have 1gb of ram, Do you think its time i got and extra gb to help the new card along. Is Corsair a good make and is £60 for 2 gb a good price for it?

Also i no the x1950 pro is kinda big. Will it fit in any modern base unit?

One last thing , is a power hungry? What PS will i need for it


What cards and ram do you all have and what resolution do u play on, I want the best quality for the cheapest amount.

2Gb ram is always good for BF2/2142

ive got an AGP board, i no..bit of a grandad but i wanna squezze everlast bit of play out of it befor i get a whole new rig, plus this way if i make this rig decent when i get a new one i can link them up.


I got my rig from a mate ages ago so im not sure what the case is, It a decent size on the inside


my psu says DC OUTPUT : 350 so i guess its 350 w and the make is FSP GROUP INC

would need a 450+ Watt PSU for the x1950,
dunno how long the card is tbh,

the x1950 pro AGP is the top of the AGP ladder last i recall

Before you run out and get a new PSU, what is the model number of your PSU? Also, how many Amps are on the 12V rails. (There may be more than 1 12V rail. I'm looking for a total.

I confident his 350W PSU can run a X1950Pro, as it only uses ~70W under load.

While you're at it, can you tell us all your specs?

the model number is FSP350-60PN (PF)

I have no idea how many amps there are. There is a +12 and a -12, if i add those up theres 16.8, im not sure if thats right.

3.4 P4 processor
350w PSU
6600 gt card
1 gb ram

Hmmm, I looked up the specs, and you only have one 12v rail that supplies 16A. (You don't count the -12V.) The X1950Pro, fully loaded, will draw 6A, which doesn't leave much headroom for your other components. This is close and because of this, an upgrade might be a good option.

When I bought my pci-e x1950pro, the recommendations were for an atx2.2 dual rail PSU with 34a !!!!!! then a 38a stable one for crossifre.

ok, major thx to sparks for checkin the specs for me, your a team player , and as for wat [R-PUB]MrD said, would that be cuz its a Pci-e or does someone have the wrong end of the stick?

Would i be safe if i get a 500w, theres one in my local computer shop for £20, the description is this, (im not sure if it means anything)

ive just been looking at the frames per secondfor battlefield 2142 for the x1950 pro compared to the geforce 7600 gt which i was told the get.

1280x1024

1950pro - 67.9
7600gt - 37.5

1920x1200

1950pro - 45.1
7600 gt - 19.2

Im guessin there good scores, Whats the average score?

Also would anyone happen to no what frame rate a 6600gt would get on those resolutions.

Also what would the x1950 pro be like on F.E.A.R cuz i wanna get the expansion pack if it will play really well

Yes 500W is wayyyyyy safe. You only need ~22A on the combined 12V rails. And try to get a quality PSU. Getting a cheap one will only create more problems later. I'd suggest a 380-450W PSU. Look at this list DO NOT get a tier 5 PSU. Aim for Tier 3 or better. A Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU is a Tier 3, and seems to be pretty good deal.

As for FPS, those stats were done with a really fast CPU. With my Pentium D, I average ~40 FPS at 1280x1024. And this is with all the settings maxed out. With your rig, you should be able to manage High settings. Can't say how many FPS though, but it certainly will be playable.

Well its "kOMPUTER KRAZY brand" so its not on the list, so were does that leave me, im on a tight budget u see with the card taking up most of the cash and then the extra ram i need.

This is turning out to be a really expensive card..from what ive worked out i need the card, new ram and a new power supply

Don't go sayin 500W is way safe....high end graphics cards can cause you to need way over 500W if you have your system loaded (especially with a lot of USB devices) otherwise you get a lot of heat build up which can shorten the life of you other components.

2GIG of RAM is more important than the graphics card!!! Im running with a 6800 all settings on high and its fine...but I have 2 GIG twins which help out alot

Oh. :|: You're right. :laugh:

What do we see? A powerful gaming system with an overclocked CPU and running two applications that put a heavy load on the CPU and both graphics cards simultaneously consumes less than 450W from the power supply!

So, it is all clear here: a power supply with wattage higher than 600-700W is not necessary for a powerful gaming system unless you are into such things as Peltier coolers, etc.

Both would help. I can't say which would help more I got another GB of RAM and a X1950Pro at the same time. Went from playing Med setting to everything high!

Wait. Gots an idea. I'll take a GB out of my system and see how it goes. I'll post back in half an hour.
