Hi. I used to play BF2 then my hard drive died, and i never installed it again. Now in the box I have disc 2-5.... I am missing disc number 1. I have the serial numbers and everything. Now do I need to go out and buy a whole new game just for one disc?! Or can I download just disc one somewhere? I don't know
I'm sure you can find a disk somewhere on bittorrent. I don't think you'll have a problem because you have the serial code, so you obviously have a legit copy. But you will have to use the same disk as you installed with to play.
A lot of people use a mini-image mounted in daemon tools to play, leaving their dvd in their case to protect it after installing.
My case box was made slightly wrong and my disc broken, shattered from the centre out, so I had to download a full image then use my serial to install (no problems) and then I carry on using the mounted mini image and there are no problems with punkbuster, etc.
There are two mini images out there, try each until you get one that works to imitate you having your retail dvd in your drive everytime you want to play.
You ought to hear two machines I look after, they spin up the dvd units making a god awful wracket and have actually made discs explode after a few hours of play, so again mini images are the way to go.

Disk 2-5? Unless you have the complete collection (BF2/SF/EF/AF), you have 2 disks too many. Either that or I am missing a whole lot of the game as mine only has 3 cd's in the box.

Do you use a raptor hd? It's gotta be a much faster boot up than using the dvd/cd. I wanted to do something like that using some software from BFG I have back when I bought a 7800 oc card. It created virtual drives that you could apparently load your cd into and play from that, though I never got it to work.
I'd like to use what you suggested to mafian purely for faster load times (I already trashed all that video start up shlt) and to free up my dvd drive which is my only drive I may add...
