weird sound in computer

sup guys, recently i have been hearing a little sharp sound coming form the tower. it is a pretty new computer, built it april 2007. what do you guys think it could be? it sometimes stops making the noise, its pretty random

yeah its rly faint, its like a beep, sometimes it goes off...

sometimes i hear a high pitched rattling sound at startup. Turns out its the metal case vibrating quickly. if i put my finger on it, it muffles it out completely.

Coil whine????

Try putting some blue tack or electrical tape over the electrical coils on the mobo. Its when the coils vibrate at such a frequency that a sound is made, but its usually non-damaging.

Wouldn't electrical tape melt on the coils?

And also consider the coil whine could be in the PSU.

so about the coil whine deal, will it damage my computer over time? or is it already damaged. :dead:

i think it can come from both the PSU and mobo. Pretty much wherever there are coils. Try it and if nothing we can rule that out of the equation.
