    bsod Problems

Hello, i just recently bought Bf2 and have had nothing but bsod's when trying to play.

    First of all, specs:
    Vista Home Prem (32)
    1.86Ghz Intel core2 e6300
    2gb ram
    geforce en7600 gs silent
    Asus P5b mobo
    Directx 10
    SoundMax Digital Hd audio

i think thats it, if i've missed anything let me know...

On to the problem: The bsod's seem to be random, and i suspect related to my sound as whenever i disable my sound driver i can acutally play properly. Not sure if other problems may attribute to this issue but i deffinately reckon the solution will be related to sound.
I've heard of errors relating to vista and people advising to switch back to xp, unfortuantely i don't have an availible copy of xp to dual boot.
From what i can gather all my drivers are up to date, i did rollback my sound driver in an attempt to fix the problem but to no avail.
So if anyone knows anything about which drivers are best, how to so about this problem etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated. I hope someone out there can help cos i'm dying to properly get into this game (preferably with sound....)

    Sincerely
    Another vista victim.

If it's your soundcard screwing up I suggest you go back to XP until Vista has better support for it.

      Re: bsod Problems

Well I have had vista for two months or so and never had a bsod playing bf2. And he already said he can't go back to xp. Maybe you should buy an external sound card if you've got some spare cash and see how that does.

under audio options, you should have it set to software acceleration. does low quality make any difference?

I will test that out today. interestingly i caused a cbt when i changed the audio settings from software to hardware.

          Edit:
Well that didn't work, same as before. however i managed to get the error code:
          Stop: 0x000000124 (0x00000000, 0x85434678, 0xb2000000, 0x00000175)
Is anyone familier with this problem or solutions for it?
          cheers.

Yep definitely a driver stop error!!
You might want to uninstall your sound card and reinstall it with the latest driver. Now that BF2 is on your system it might work better than adding BF2 to the computer with the old sound setup. (worth a try)

You can say that again, kula.

As stated, prol'y a sound driver error. unfortunately, it could be something corrupted deeper in the os--a dx9 corruption, etc.

did it work before? other games?

                  Re: bsod Problems

I seemed to have fixed it! Having got the rror code i found people where having problems with a cpu setting in the bios that was interfering with the sound driver for vista. So i updated my bios just in case and disabled the C1E, and havn't had any problems since. of course now that i've posted this it'll come back again.... but for now it works!
                  cheers. :yay:
