Can you wait until july 22nd? q6600 will be the price of an e6600. Or maybe do what mega did and buy a low end P D and upgrade when the price drops comes.

EDIT1. Forgot, are you pulling anything from your old computer? monitor/speakers/dvd drive/ hd etc etc...

very decent rig if you want to overclock for ~$650, less if you mail the rebate. tbh though, you might as well get the e6320 now that's it's cheap or a e4400, instead of the suxxy pentium d.

Thinking bout getting this. Then, when I get cash, I can throw a gig or two in there and add a cheap gfx card, like a 7600GT...

it would run bf2 very well on a mix of medium/high. buying the first two items new doesn't make a lot sense, imho, when you can get substantially better parts for a very small increase. if you're getting a deal on it used (ebay), then it might be worth it. an x1950pro will smack the pants of a 7600gt, but the $40 difference after rebates might be a deal-breaker.

edit: keep in mind that bf2 is a two year old game, and any modern system with a ~$100 graphics unit is going to run it well. i'm not sure how happy you're going to be with the slowest ddr2 on the planet and a celery (although the cel's are much better than they used to be).

• Antec NSK4400 with 380W PSU (80)- Antec makes quality cases, and decent PSU's. Better than the generic stuff.
• BIOSTAR TForce TF7025-M2 (70)- Read a really good review about this board. OC's well.
• X2 3600 (70)- Cheap, dual core, runs cool, can be OC'ed. Doesn't get much better.
• 1GB stick of OCZ DDR2-800- (50)- Made by OCZ, DDR2-800, leaves room for upgrade.
• Sapphire X1950GT (110)- Fast card for the money. I think it's faster than a 8600GT.
• Seagate 250GB (80)- A HDD.
• Samsung SH-S182D/BEBE (30)- DVD burner.

Total- $490. All prices come from Newegg and don't include shipping. If you want to upgrade this, 1) Get 2GB of memory. 2) Faster AMD processor. 3) X1950PRO. If you want to downgrade this system 1) Smaller HDD 2) Slower video card.

So there you have it. And just as a good rule, If you can't afford a C2D, don't get Intel. Pentium D runs hot, and is not as fast as modern AMD's X2's. If you are getting a Celeron D, just spend an extra $20, and you can get a X2 3600! the X2 is dual core, and runs very cool. I'm not a fanboy, I just like to get the most for my money. IMO, AMD rules the sub-C2D category.

You'd be ALOT happier with a system like that, but $200 for that celery system isn't bad considering the price, considering you'd be getting it from WorstBuy.

On the other hand, you'd HAVE to have another 512mb ram and a decent gpu to enjoy BF2...so you're already up to to $365 (x1950pro ~$114 and 512mb...might as well get 1 gb and make it 1.5gb total...$40-$50). Out of the box, that integrated graphics unit isn't going to run BF2 very well, if at all.

Nah. I don't think you're saving any money over going with a system like ^ proposed. If it was me, I'd go ahead and spring for the next higher antec case, Sonata II for another $20. You get a 450W psu which gives you some comfortable room to overclock an x1950pro, and a much nicer case (imho):

meh. if you went with a 7600gt or an x1950gt, though, you wouldn't need the higher-powered psu. just think about it carefully before you plop down $200 on a system you KNOW you're going to have to put another $150 in to enjoy gaming, and then it's still not going to run that fast.

oh, and last thought: celery's are ok for fps because the gpu is doing most of the really hard work, but if you play alot of rts games, that CPU will absolutely be horrendous because of all the computations that are going on both on the the screen and off the screen.

i mite want to clear up something, i have little to no money, I am trying to buy the cheapest thing out in time for school...then at a later date I will add the memory and gfx card and the motherboard can support a C2D.

i will ask again, in order to keep the warranty, best buy will have to install the parts, rite?

when you say you have little to no money, does that mean $$20 from your birthday?

These guys have poored a lot of time into researching a really cheap build for you that will run bf2 good and you don't seem to respect that. I'm so glad I didn't waste my time trying to help you out, as you never did answer my first question way up top nor have you indicated any price limit at all.

The only problem with the $490 build by spark is it will not support a C2D like you asked. All you have to do is switch the mobo with a S757 and a low end P D. Then again, I hope you do not expect much from any build you get out of this thread - custom or bestbuy because it simply won't have any umpf in it in a year or two even after upgrades. Why? You are going to have a weakass mobo. The moment you upgrade anything something else will need an upgrade too. By the time your done upgrading that system, you'll have almost two computers. A stash of crap and a stash of decent stuff with low end stuff.

You want a gaming rig? be prepared to spend some money. Ask mom and dad for help and get a summer job.

EDIT - as for your warranty, all I can think of is why? You don't plan on keeping anything in that rig anyways, why pay money to have it covered?

nah. you'll most likely be in the same situation. there won't be much to salvage from that pc except a $15 optical drive and a $20 bargain basement hd that may or may not be compatible with motherboards in another year.

no reason why they would. if you installed a graphics card, and later your celery fizzled, you'd just take out the gpu and return the box for warranty service at WorstBuy using their WorstBuyExtendedWarrantyPlan (i'd suggest you not buy an extended service plan, but...), or directly to eMachines if you're under factory warranty. if you want to be absolutely sure, you could ask a WorstBuy employee; they wear blue shirts.

no telling what sort of power supply is in that box though, so you might want to find out before you decide to upgrade to a 7600gt on a 250W psu.

well iv got an old psu and gfx card lying around (just recently upgraded) and im plannin on puttin those in the gfx is a 7600 gs and the psu is like an antec 500 watt my mom doesnt play games but when im over i do (parents divorced) so its more of a family computer

Ah I see man. Than definately put a C2D in it. It'll run faster. If you can wait until July 22nd prices will drop.
