But i don't have the the ram to run it well.

What I wanted to know is can I use it on a custom built PC I am putting together?

I'm not 100% positive but i think not.....reason being is that on a dell the windows cd reads some micro-code in the bios that allows it to install. It might be possible to work around it, but not from the gateway cd....

OEM disks will bind themselves to the machine they were installed on. If you hadn't used your upgrade cd yet, it didn't "know" it was supposed to be put on a gateway/dell/compaq/etc.

I was able to use the DVD given for my laptop (the Vista Home Premium) and installed it on my Homemade desktop comp. Its working fine.

I know m8 thats why i was surprised when it let me activate it, considering i had already installed and activated it on my Dell machine. Before changing my mind and installing XP back on there again. I fully expected it to give me 2 fingers but it worked fine.
