Uber Lag And Ctd

Ok so trying to help a friend here he has:

intel pentium 4 3.2ghz
1 gb ram
Nvidia 6200 256mb
With about 55 processes

It CTD quite often and he gets uber lag often hes done virus checks and its come up with nothing his ping is low at 50 so he dont know what to do any ideas? Its all on low and he knows the 6200 is not supported but it worked when he first got the game. His pc is on a lot of the day and wondering if it is crashing due to overheating???

BF2 can request more than 800mb of ram; if you're sure you don't have malware, then having 55 processes running leads me to think you're "infected" with commercial programs running in the background--realplayer, creative(?), adobe...etc.

start-->run-->msconfig-->click on start up tab and see what all is insisting on running every time he boots the p.c.

temps are also possibility.

and i know you already said it wasn't the 6200, but that's a very low end card. saving grace is that it has its own (err, right?) ram and isn't borrowing that 256 from system ram?

search teh googlez for the best driver for it, and do keep an eye on temps. your friends new problem and the recent temp increases for summer could very well be related. a thorough cleaning may also be in order.
