Laptop keeps restarting

Just recently I upgraded my laptop's memory from 500mb of RAM to 2GB (1gb x2). Whenever I turn it on it works fine for a bit. Then it crashes and restarts. It does this a few times in a row, then it's fine for a bit, and then crashes again. After reinstalling windows, it hasn't crashed YET. It looks to me like it's the RAM, but it helps to know exactly what's going on so I can fix it.
It's an Acer aspire 1.6GHz, 2gb ram, 80gb HDD, windows XP, with an intel graphics media accelerator.

you should run memtest to make sure it is the ram

is you ram getting enough voltage? I had a similair problem with my desktop computer when I installed another 2x 1GB sticks for a total of 4GBs. My computer would crash to a blue screen with an error on it stating something like "reboot and if this happenes often reinstall XP"

Anyways, my solution ended up being more simple than reinstalling XP -> It turned out my ram was running at 1.85 volts on the auto setting (very low) and the ram requires 2.3 volts. Once I changed the voltage levels manually though everything worked perfectly and i havent crashed yet.

It's fixed. After I tried things mentioned here, none seemed to work. Supposedly I didn't put the RAM in the right slot? I took them out and put them in opposite slots, and it hasn't crashed since. I didn't know one was "left" and one was "right".
