PSU Q 250 to 350W

Ok, nobody is responding to my last question in the old thread even after I bumped it to the top. So now I'm going to ask again.

I have an HP computer sitting in my room with a blown out PSU that was a 250Watt. I have a 350 sitting here next to me and I would like to know if its safe to install it in? I figure yes but when it comes down to PSU's I'm at a loss still somewhat...

Now if it was a Dell I would say at best, maybe. Dell is famous for using non-standard connectors on their power supplies (20 pin, but wired differently), but I don't think HP ever did that sort of thing.

Actually the funky thing is that this HP computer is the same deal. The PSU has a 20 pin connection and the Mobo takes a 24. The one I'm putting in is a 20+4 pin connection...

Ohwell, I figured it would be ok. I just didn't want to fry first and say sorry later =P.

EDIT - Ok I just installed the PSU into the HP and its powering up but its not doing anything. It is just a black screen with no beeps from the bios. I'm guessing the mobo got fried from the previous psu???

I tried connecting the 20+4 pin power for the mobo first and then switched it to just the 20 pin configuration as it was before. There was no difference.
