hi i have a:

celeron D 3Ghz
7600GT 256mb GDDR3
1.5GB PC3200

i can play on medium - low... the top settings are medium but the bottom, Dynamic Shadow, Dynamic Lighting, texture filturing is on off / low. view dist 100%

if i upgrade the CPU to a 1.86Ghz (each core) e4300 Core 2 Duo with a compatible motherboard (the vid card is AGP) what settings could i increase or will there be no differance watsover

you would probably notice faster load times, but with the same video card, there would be no difference in frame rates.

by the time they started making dual core celery d's, celery's weren't all that bad. still, you could see a bump in overall performance going with C2D.

are you sure that agp board of yours supports e4300 at it's rated fsb?

edit: and exactly which mobo do you have?

as i run a agp rig myself with the same card,i will give the low down for me.

amd 4200x2 (2x2.2ghz) on socket 939

7600gt agp8x

2gb ram(4x512)pc3200(400mhz)

550 watt powersuply (30amps 12v rail)<--not that i need it

i can run bf2 on all high around 50 fps.

but i turn of shadows and dynamic light it goes up to 99fps

i use 1024x768 res and 2x AA looks good imo and never slows down.

He said he was going to buy a new Mobo for the C2d and pull his vid card.

I think you should go with the next C2d up, the E4320 isnt it? It's like the exact same CPU but you get your 4mb cache over 2 mb. From that point on you can buy an after market cpu fan/heatsink - like a Zalman 9700 and put it on. Quiet and OC. I'm running E6600 2.4 ghz oc to 3.4 ghz. Buying the right Mobo (depending on your budget) will depict how much you can squeeze out of your CPU.

As for your video card, you should consider buying a low end PCI-E card (meaning a PCI-E MoBo). You will only be paying more if you go with an AGP build now.

If you are willing to go thise route, let us know. Oh, yeah, don't forget to show us a budget too!

Well I'd be buying a mobo that support AGP + PCIE because I just spent money on this AGP 7600GT

My budget is like.. $250 for the CPU + motherboard.

Please don't get a Zalman 9700, the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro cools almost as good for half the price, and the Thermaltake eXtreme 120 does even better cooling for just a few $ more

Remember budget = ~$200 but I definately want a C2D and want it to be as cheap as possible but want the motherboard to support AGP + PCI-E, PC3200 DDR, PCI slots not required...
