What's the benefit? You get more time to pick your nose between alt-tab due to the higher latencies? You get to feel charitable about unloading your 5-5-5-15 pc2 8500 (along with the motherboard) for twice-the-price 7-7-7-21 pc3 8500 (+ a motherboard) so that the Taiwanese can buy a few more missiles?

I'm at a loss. 1333mhz memory looks nice, until you realize you can almost SEE the electrons lumbering along. Look there...are those electrons drunk? :)

I'm taking a decidedly wait-and-see approach with ddr3. I may stock up on another round of pc2 8500 while they're dirt cheap, though.

lol, I've already called dibs on upgrading to 4 gb pc8500 (+2 x 1gb sticks) 2 weeks ago when it dropped to half price from 2 months ago. DDR2 works for moi =D

EDIT - Why pay so much money for DDR3 on that site when canadacomputers.com destroys them... If you have it in your mind that you need DDR3 O_o

basically its just technology moving forward,there no reason to get it right now,has high latency timings liek 7-7-4? or somethign liek that but once its improved it will be worht it i imagine.

yeah but it's only $20 worth of "destruction after you factor in the exchange rate, and before you factor shipping charges from oh!Canada to Underland.

not that i'm in any way, shape, or form suggesting anyone who likes getting their money's worth out of hardware should buy ddr3 at any time in the near-to-mid-future.

Have you seen becnhmarks of it? No single improvement, that's jsut marketing to get us all buying new mainboards and stuff. That's why I like AMD, they don't rush it while Intel said, oh yeah, let's use ddr3. DDR3 is a stillbirth, nothing more.

Ddr3 will be incredibly useful, once they tighten down the latencies a bit. It can easily go up to 1000mhz (2k ddr) @ 1.8v, so its only a matter of time before we all switch over.

nah. not stillbirth. just painful labor. as in 8-12 more months. they'll get the timings down and the bandwidth up...eventually. 'til then + another 8-12 months, I'm sitting pretty w/my fast Japanese ddr2 memory.

Its going to be like my old AGP computer. I took that computer by the horns until it was road kill. By then intel will release a chip called suptra fractcho and nvidia will have its 17855 GTX OC ULTRA SUPAA SUPPAA CLOCKSED vid card out! I'm just sitting tight for my ownage system.
