YAY!!! GO DeadCRAP!!!! We're going to make you a techy yet (or at least better at pc's than a journalism major working his way through school by pretending to service pc's.)!
If none of your fans are striking wires, then it's possible that one of your fans has a speed-relative tick. At some rpm's, the ticks won't be of high (or low) enough frequency to be audible, but when you get to a "sweet spot" the fan motors might drag a tad, producing sound. I'd recommend you d'l speedfan (google it), and modulate the fans manually and see if you can pinpoint a fan/rpm where you can consistently duplicate the ticking noise.
Clicking sound=moving part, and the only moving consistently moving parts besides drives (optical, hdd, fdd) are your fans.
