Bf2 wont install

i recently purchased BF2 complete collection for my computer, installed it and worked fine. but a few days ago my computer was attacked by a root kit and screwed up my os. fortunatly i had a separate partition for the os so i didn't lose any thing. but the dlls in bf2 was missing. so i tried to reinstall but it said that "the current version of the application could not be determined. installation will now terminate." and it stays in that loop even if i restart. now the funny thing is that bf2 was on my hd but was not on the installed programs list. any help would be great.


Amd Athlon 64 3800+ processor
Nvidia 7300gs
hp mother board with Nvidia chip set (don't realy know what it is)
1 gig of ram
Microsoft XP professional with media center

maybe u shud reformat maybe? whats a root kit? and BTW welcome to the forums man

a root kit is a exe that dls it self onto the computer and changes/ deletes a boot file. not a nice thing to have happen because it only changes maby 3 to 4 kb of information.

try manually uninstalling to remove all traces of bf2 from your pc, then try and install it again.

ok every thing is cleaned out, but it still gives me the same error. is there something else I'm forgetting to do?

would it have something to do with the bf2 dvd.mds i have on my computer?

this problem is not just affecting the game but other software as well. i can't install my joystick programming software eather because of this bug. is there any thing i could do besides reinstalling the os witch i already did if u haven't read.

THANK YOU!!!! that did the trick. its funny it didn't dawn on me that i had an old version of install shield on the second partition. any way thx for the hep for every one who contributed.
