Need Upgrades For Patch

My mates just got the 1.41 patch and it laggs like crazy, it worked fine without any patch now its laggy as hell. Specs:

P4 3.0ghz
1gb ram
ati 9550 video card

What can He upgrade to make it play better? He doesnt want to spend to much on it.

the GFX card has got to go lol..what does he have for GFX AGP or PCI-Express? for AGP get the x1950 pro from ATI and form Nvidia get the 7900 GS as long as he plays all medium with a couple things on high he will enjoy the game very much :)

got to be agp. prol'y needs to turn everything back down to way low (maybe??? view distance and geometries medium-ish for playabilities' sake?) and make sure res is no bigger than 800x600 w/that card to restore some semi-playable framerates.

food for thought: as suggested, an x1950pro and another gigabyte of ram would have your m8 gaming happy on medium-highish w/many games for next couple of years.
